Default 617-3 4 inch 10 shot? Factory correct

I just got a 617-3 4 inch 10 shot steel cylinder 22 lr pistol.Is it possible smith wesson made a 617-3 10 shot?
I know what i bought is a 617-3 4 inch 10 shot steel.

I guess,in my research,i only see sw going to the steel 10 shot in the dash 4 series.

I know the 617 -2 10 shot were aluminum,only in 6 inch barrel.

This gun is all factory ,like new.I will post pictures when i figure out how to upload files
thank you for any help or advice

If'n it is what you say at a price you can afford, you should be showing us pix of your new gun. Joe

I bought my 617-2 6 inch new and it came with the SS cylinder, they started making them SS with later -2's.

I don't know about -3's, S&W was offering to convert 6 shots to 10 shots for a price, maybe yours was converted. I initially was going to convert my no dash but decided against it.

My 617's.
Top - 617 (no dash) 6" 6 shot
Middle - 617-2 6" 10 shot (w/SS cylinder)
Bot - 617-6 4" shot

ds,
Thanks sir.I cant find any good info regarding this gun.The owner is looking for box.
I know the product code is the main number to get.
I will call sw in the morning and give them serial number, which should get me the product code.
The gun has the adj rear sight, and top strap is drilled and tapped 3 times, patridge blade front sight
semi wide smooth trigger and hammer, round butt, old extractor style.

One thing about Smith & Wesson: They do NOT stop the assembly line and clean up one model or dash before starting the next. I have a 19-2 (marked) that has all of the 19-3 modifications on it. That old assembly line keeps on moving and mixed mods are common..........Enjoy the new toy.

Nothing unusual for S&W, and while interesting to some, doesn't add significant value. Shoot and enjoy it. Jim

as the sw experts have posted, never be surprised as to what comes out of the sw shop.
The assembly line does not stop to get every single gun and pc code matched.
According to the sw rep i talked to,my 617-3 steel 10 shot does not exist.
The gun shipped with a product code for the 617-4 10 shot steel.
The 617-3 10 shot 4 inch rb steel does not have a product code, but i have it in my safe, and sw rep has the ship date.

A friend bought a 617 with a 7-shot cylinder new in 2010. Unfortunately the frame split where the barrel screws in, a much more common problem with non-pinned barrels. When it got back from the factory, he had been given a 6 shot cylinder. He was just glad to get a useable gun back, and I helped him sell it on Gunbroker. I try to steer clear of non-pinned barrels since. I agree, you might find any combination on a Smith.
