Default S&W Laser Etching

I have a 29-8 MG that I really like. If I had one complaint with the gun it is the gold etching on the barrel that says "Mountain Gun". Over the years it has gotten harder and harder to read. I've not done anything to it but I can't figure out where it's going.

Is there a problem with laser etching?

It is simply wearing off. The laser markings have no depth and are very delicate. Probably the reason why laser markings were not used for very long.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I wondered why you don't see them anymore.
