My big bore carry guns aren't S&Ws, but my Rossi M720 44 SPL gets carried often and my Ruger Alaskan 44 gets carried rarely.

This 625-3 is rarely carried, but certainly appreciated.

S&W Model 22-4, 4”, 45 ACP. It replaces the M28-2 I reworked into a 45 ACP. Same revolver but fixed sights.
All 45 ACP. All have been carried except the shiny one.

I have a new to me 325 PD in which I installed a stainless 625 cylinder, in place of the Titanium cylinder it came with. I don't seem to be able to post pictures here anymore but it fits the criteria of the thread and I intend to carry it once I'm more familiar with it.

Hasn't been part of my rotation for a while, but I've been just thinking about it .:
Circa 1985 John Jovino " Terminator " , bought new . An Astra .44Mag , cut to 2.75i , and grip cut to K frame round butt shape . I later had it Mag Na Ported . It has personal significance to me , but I wholeheartedly to avoid snub .44Mags .
My more frequently used one , I'm not sure if fits criteria : A non catalogued Ruger Sheriffs , built for a distributor shortly before their introducing a standaridized Sheriff's . .45Colt Vaquero , 3.5in ( NOT the later 3.75 ) , and standard Vaquero grip frame . Purchased nominally used ( regular customer bought it , and shortly later traded it back to same dealer, seemingly unfired .) Came from Ruger with imitation Ivory that just didn't feel right, swapped the woodgrips from another Ruger , and each one subjectly feels better, win/ win .

I've got one of those, but the 3.75" in .45 ACP with the birdshead. I like it a good bit and it gets more holster time than does the 625-3 I posted up-thread (though the 625-3 has more on-duty time, as it's one of the house guns).

Excellent choice. My constant companion.
S&W 21-4, bobbed hammer, lock deleted and grips from a Night Guard (found on eBay).

My EDC primary, from pajamas-off until pajamas-on, is an N-Frame 5" 629 full-underlug (Classic) .44mag, loaded with full-spec 240gr JHP Underwoods, in a homemade under-the-shirt cloth vertical shoulder holster rig. BUG is a J-Frame 11oz 360sc ultralight scandium/aluminum/titanium .357 snubby, carried in my right front pocket. I shoot both strictly SA. I'm slow, but accurate.

Very nice. I’d like to know how the front sight was re-attached to the shortened ss barrel on the mdl65 ?

No. Revolvers have very limited ammo capacity and are virtually impossible to reload in a close quarters shootout. Not good when you are bedeviled by gangstas. My M&P9 carries 3x the ammo of a revolver, 18 rounds, with 17 more in a quick reload.

That’s a beautiful gun. Love the case colored frame. I have the blued version in 45ACP. Wish they made it 45 Colt.

Always kind of thought a a 3 1/2" .44 special would be cool to own/carry ...but truth be told don't think I've ever seen one for sale in a LGS.... I don't reload and ammo is expensive and not well stocked........ and I doubt I'd ever carry it.....
When I had a 3" 586...the L frame never got carried .......I've got a 4" 27 and 28 that rarely see the light of day..... I've always opted for my 3" 66 K-frame or a 3" 60-10 (think micro-686).. for my Penn's Woods carry gun........
Guess if I ever run across the perfect deal I'd bite but in all likelihood a big bore carry gun will never happen for me.

I have been known to carry this one in a front pocket....
Full house 44 Mag was just too brutal with these stocks, so now it gets fed 240gr LSWCHP at 1100 fps.

My 22-4 was a primary carry only when my other big bore, a 1911 was down. That said it carries well and is comfortable...it's just not the easiest to hide. A suitable cover garment is essential.

With a 442 or 642 as backup, I do not feel under gunned. Those prepared for the gangland showdown, zombie apocalypse, and Jihadi mass attack...you'll need more than a handgun, ideally.

I often slip this little Taurus 445 2" 44 special in a Sticky holster for the day. Tried it in an ankle holster once, but it was too heavy. My 696 is a 3" L frame, and a bit larger than the 445.
My 3" 625 is more difficult to carry comfortably IWB. I think it needs a high rise pancake, but it is pretty bulky without winter outerwear to cover it. But it's probably the best shooter.
I do love carrying my RIA compact IWB and my Shield 45, because they are so thin, although they are 3.5" & 3.3" respectively. Weight of the RIA is about the same as the 625, but with a couple more rounds loaded. Big bores = confidence. Lately I'm carrying the Shield, because it's more comfortable.
Yep, I like big butts, uh, I mean big bores!

My new carry gun is not a "big bore"...but it is an equally bulky N-Frame, so I'm joining the club with all the others here. My Winter carry gun will be my 2.625" bbl 8-shot 627. I finally got it repaired and now it is up and running like it was intended to. Which is something it hadn't really done since I bought it new. Yesterday I rapid fired two moon clips of warm-ish 357's through it...and it functioned flawlessly. Yeah it is a bit bulky, but it feels smooth as silk and those moon clips fell so easily in and out of the cylinder. I don't feel undergunned at all as far as a CC weapon goes.

Bottom one for the "Woods" or anything in-between... 305gr Underwood Hard Cast "Keiths" for the obvious and 255gr "Hot Specials" Hard Cast Keith's for Non-Sasquatch situations...

Rick A,
Who made your holster?
Back in my badge toting days, I carried one of the following-a 1911 .45 ACP, a .45 ACP revolver, a .44 Special, a 41 Magnum, a .44 Magnum or a .45 Colt.
I don't consider a .357 to be a big bore.

When back home I'm thinking I'll change to my M58 from a Security Six - I carried the Ruger in the woods and on horseback for 15 years just because it wouldn't have been a huge loss if it got bent during a fall but still has the power to put down a badly injured horse. The 58 does that and more, but it would not please me to bend it; however, I buy them to use.

Dad always told me a .44 would lift a man up off his feet and knock them down each and every time.
A .38 will just make them mad unless a brain kill.
During the Spanish American, the weak .38 special revolvers the Army was using required multiple cylinder dumps to get the Moro’s to fall down and submit to American superiority. They changed them all over to worn out Colt’s Single Actions and the big .45 slugs would knock them down with ease even the ones super high on drugs.
At least, that’s what dad said!!
PS: The above is a hyperbole, but I certainly love a short barrel .44 special or .45 Colt’s!

Most of my street time is with a Colt Commander but if in the woods it will be a .41 Magnum...
If just hiking prefer the very light weight Taurus Titanium Tracker 4" but sometimes carry a 657 Mountain Gun or a 58....
It 2013 and 14 spent several months out in Idaho, Oregon and Washington and carried nothing but a 4" 57 the whole time...

I don't consider a .357 to be a big bore.

If you are looking for a nice N-frame CC holster try the DeSantis Speed Scabbard...they also have a thumbreak model like the one pictured above... Not really necessary however as one would have to fall on their head to loose the gun out of the Speed Scabbard...and then you probably would not need the gun anyway...
Can usually be had for the $5o-60 area...in black or brown...

It is precisely a Desantis thumbreak scabbard in basketweave. Caught it on sale for $25 IIRC. Great buy.

WOW! You must have been one of the very few cops who ever carried a .44mag on duty.

I carried one with 240 grain LFN medium loads until my agency standardized on 357.

This is my favorite carry; an early ( ca. 1972) Bridgeport Charter Arms Undercover.

I guess .44mags being carried by cops wasn't as rare as I thought.

I dont know where you live but ...
If you cannot avoid a gunfight that needs 36rounds of ammo
Then stop going to those places or move!

Amen.
The biggest EDC I have is a .357 Mag.
I don't think I'll ever end up with anything bigger for a EDC.

My PD required that you carry a .38, a 9mm OR LARGER. There were about a 1/2 dozen officers that carried .44 Magnums. Mine was a 5 1/2" Ruger Redhawk. It got heavy pretty fast, so after a short while, I went back to an aluminum frame full size 1911 .45 ACP that I had built.

A big ol' revolver, but alas not a big-bore, totin' this 3 1/2-inch N-Frame .357 Magnum has sort of gotten my feet wet in the past few years with the concept of packing large, heavy revolvers. It's really no different than totin' full sized Government Model .45 automatics which I love. With a good belt and holster it's fine for all day carry use. I think I'd prefer a .44 Special or some sort of .45 N-Frame of similar barrel length.
