Default Issue with new 10-8 LEO trade in from Classic ?

My girlfriend got a Smith Wesson Model 10-8 from Classic a few weeks ago. We shot at least 300 rounds out of it with zero issues. Yesterday, while at the range I realized that on a closed cylinder, with not much effort, I can turn the cylinder clockwise. Once I do that, the cylinder then turns freely until it gets in the next notch. (Sorry for the wrong lingo).I can keep doing that all day long. I know that is not normal, but is that a problem ? I'm not going to shoot it again until I can get this figured out.

Thanks

Smile Mpdel 10-8 Issue

The cylinder locking bolt and spring needs replacing OR a cleaning of the internals with the side plate removed. (gun scrubber)

If you are forcing the cylinder clockwise, and it doesn't do it under any other condition, I suggest that you stop. The gun is designed to rotate the cylinder counter clockwise. Try a detail strip and cleaning, could be that the cylinder stop or stop spring should be replaced. It is a fitted part and will require someone trained in S&Ws

If the cylinder is closed without the cylinder-bolt engaging, it will normally rotate until the next “notch” is engaged.

I initially thought that was the case with my revolver, but unfortunately even when it's on a "notch" I can keep infinitely rotating the cylinder to the next notch. I know an FFL that does gunsmith work. I'm going to show it to him and see what he says. I'll update here when I find out more.

Spray some solvent on the bolt and then a little oil and see if it just got gummed up.

I agree with others about cylinder stop/bolt and
its spring; gun needs a good cleaning as well.

Unless.....unless, uh oh, the worst of worst has
happened, the Model 10 is afflicted with Colt-itis!
