Default 65-3 3”

I was at The Gun library today and a 3” Smith caught my eye. Looking closer it was a 65-3. I don’t know too much about them but the price seemed good. I hate to ask, but could someone help me with a manufacture date? I’ve tried google for about an hour but have had no luck. The serial number in AZHxxxx. Thanks, Joe

It is likely from the late winter to early spring of 1988.

And the suspense is not nice...did you buy it?

You did well! I thought 3” K frames were immune to the generally depressed gun market but perhaps not. Enjoy!

Default Very good price for a great gun!

OP; You did swell in my opinion...especially for anything at Cabela's. They are not known for any kind of deal around here. That would have been easy $600 to $650 at Cabela's locally.

Mine is a 4" that I got some years ago, and is a great gun in a great caliber. One of my daughters is a NC LEO and here duty gun is a Glock 21 Gen 4 in .45ACP. During her annual qualification exercises (1 week long) this year, her agency had a bench full of older revolvers, retired duty weapons, etc. for the LEO's to "play with" after qualification sessions were over, and she picked up one of the Smith Model 65-3 with 4" and she shot the "old course" and did very well. I don't think she mentioned that she routinely shoots mine for fun when at home.

Mine (1986) has the "as-issued" service PC Magnas, but occasionally we will add the old 1950's Mershon rubbers if going out for a full range day with full load Maggies. Makes the recoil much more tolerable.

Enjoy yours.......they really don't make them anymore. Range report when you get a chance.

You did steal that! Nice! I and another friend have been looking for one. If I find a decent one at $650 OTD I am a buyer. But the market is bringing more than that. I saw a $600 one that was completely beat to death which he passed on. They are also not easily found locally here either. Lots of 4" around but not 3".

My 65-5, wish it had been $420 OTD, but at $550 OTD I’m not complaining.
It is not a police trade in.

Many S&W M65-2 4" were sold this year in Finland. Weapons were 99% unused, price was only 300 € (332 $).

Apparently Bank of Finland's guard weapons from 1980's-1990's.

Mine is a 3-inch dash 4. It was a pawn shop buy and the owner would not dicker on the price. It was $498 OTD ($475 plus sales tax) one year ago. Advice I got here before I purchased suggested that was a very good price so I bought it. You did exceptionally well.

JMHO: I believe that a 3" K-frame is the perfect carry revolver. Easy to conceal with enough barrel to shoot really well. I've got 3" Models 10 &13 and love 'em.

Bubba, ya done good. Real good!

Congrats on your find. That is a heck of a deal these days.

It seems that if it’s not modern or especially a 686, my Cabelas isn’t sure what to do. They had a 3” model 36 in great shape about a year ago for $399 that I wasn’t smart enough to buy. I know just enough to be dangerous.

420 otd is a ridiculous price. I paid more for my M13 with Pachys and honest carry wear. 65 3 inchers are RARE under 600.

That is an outstanding price! You did extremely well!

I just bought this 65-3 a few weeks ago. It came with the ammo, and was 695 OTD. I just put Altamont stocks on it to replace the Goodyears, and took it out for its initial testing (very happy!) the day after Christmas (and yes, there will be another post about it!):

I’ve been searching for a holster. I can’t afford a custom holster. Can anyone recommend a descent leather holster that won’t break the bank? Thanks.

A Bianchi Shadow will conceal it well. I've carried a four-inch M-66 in one.

+ the barrel is long enough for full extraction.

With shipping and $40 FFL fees, I have close to $700 in mine.

May be too much, but I aint ever regretted it. Wasn't a trade in gun, and is about as perfect as anyone could want.

How do you tell if it is a police trade in? Mine has numbers inside the crane but nothing on the outside.

That’s a steal at $450. The 3” 65 goes much higher than the 4” on line. If it’s nice it would easily bring over $800.

I sold a scuffed 3” 65-2 (with hogue rubber boot grips) locally for $800 within a day of listing it.

Considering the 3 inchers are somewhat prized I would say you did excellent. I bought the same model about 12 years ago for $375 and it only came with extra grips.
