Will this barrel fit my 629-1?
Recently picked up this SW 629-1 in 44 mag. Wondering if this other barrel will fit my frame. I’d prefer a heavier barrel.
Thanks.

That barrel can be installed on your Model 629

You would ruin the value of your gun and the cost to but the barrel and install it would be half the price of a new one.

I have a 629-1 like yours and wouldn't want to devalue it by replacing the barrel. Model 629 Classics with the full-underlug barrel aren't that difficult to find.
I use mine exclusively for target shooting with cast 240-grain semi-wadcutters. I obviously changed the stocks and replaced the rear sight with a Millett but a few minutes with a screwdriver restores it to 100% original.

I wish I could saw the lug off my 5 in and send to him. My 6 in with short lug will never be molested.

Ya, it will fit. Might need some adjustments to do so. shoulder trimmed to get it to torque up in line and the barrel shank (outside of forcing cone) might need adjusted to get correct B/C
Probably be money ahead to sell or trade to get what you want.
Mike, SC Hunter. get an 8 3/8" no under lug barrel and have it trimmed.

YES as long as you have the right tools and done properly. The 629 frame is flat in front for the original lug so it should look good. As long as the cylinders from both models are the same the bc gap should be ok. Here is a 44 Special I switched years ago, frame /rib dont quite mate up but your rib will look fine . It shoots great and I have the old parts so can always switch it back.
