Default 629-3 to -6 Changes Help

I have been looking at a lot of 629s and the different changes made.

I have always been a fan of the firing pin in the hammer (old school design) forged hammer /trigger.
But time marches in. The 629-5 is pre IL. What advantages/advances do I get with a 629- 5 over a 629 -3?
I have the SCSW but it really doesn’t give 1st hand account of what people like or don’t like about the transition to -5. Is this where the performance package comes into play?

The 629-4 and 629-5 have the current rear sight assy. They also have the current extractor design.

629-4 will have case hardened carbon steel forged hammer and trigger. Mostly round butt frames.

629-5 has case hardened MIM hammer and trigger, frame mounted firing pin and integral frame lug.Round butt frames only.

629-3 will have flash chrome forged hammer and trigger ( which I prefer as they wont rust). Old style two pin extractor design and old style rear sight assy. on standard non classic models and had a unique rear sight on the full lug classic models.. Square butt grip frame in standard non full barrel lug models.

All three have the full endurance package. All are excellent and not really better than the other. Depends on what your taste is. I have found from the several models I have owned of both -3 and -4 variants that the -3 models seem to have been put together better. I have never owned a -5 629 but have owned -5 686 models and they are great.

More important is condition. I would not pass on either in excellent condition in the configuration you want.

Default 629-3 to -6 Changes Help

Grip Frame thanks that’s exactly what I was hoping for.

I have a 3” 629-4 in the mail and I picked up a 629-3 Long Tom CLASSIC DX today that I’ve been working on at my LGS for a couple of weeks.
