586 Barrel Swap Opinions
I have a 586-8 in a 4" barrel. I have thought about changing the barrel to a 6". I called Smith & Wesson and they said to change it out the price would be around $200. This would include the new barrel and labor, and I would get the 4" barrel back. All my other 357 magnums have 4" barrels. I'm looking for opinions on this. Or are there any other less expensive options. I appreciate anyone's thoughts on this.

Buy new 586 with 6" barrel; shoot; decide if you like
If yes: sell 4" 586.
If no: sell 6" 586.
As a general rule, don't pay to have built what already exists.

I've got a 6" 586...they are out there... so get an "old" one.

$200 for factory work plus the old barrel, seems reasonable to me. I have both barrel lengths and like them both, a lot, for their different characteristics.
