Default Model 29 4" Value??

Model 29 4". AFE serial prefix. It has the original box, no papers, no SAT/cleaning kit. Non original grips. Note the condition of the sideplate screws. What's it worth???

Is not a 29-5 or 29-6?

That would make a difference to me due to the throat diameters.

Without that information, $550 would be a GREAT deal. $650 ok deal. $800 too much for my taste.

29-6 $100 more but that's because they are my favorite.
29-4: $50 or $75 less.

To me.....forgeddabout it. I am very sensitive to any evidence that some one who can't even manage a screw driver with out damaging a screw head has been inside a complicated and tuned revolver.

Yup^^^^^^^. You can end up owning a firearm missing internal parts, most commonly the hammer block.

I wouldnt get too excited about the screws. If I could check it out and it seemed mechanically sound, Id guess it would sell for around $750, in my neck of the woods. Screws are easily replaced. Not so easily replaced are the original stocks. If it had its correct stocks Id guess another $100 - in other words, $850, give or take.

I will have the opportunity to autopsy it (remove the sideplate) before I commit to it. Should I use a rusty rounded off tire tool on the screws like the previous guy????? Anyway, report coming later this week.

I grabbed this 29-4 in 4" a few weeks back in Penna for 650.00 .. Felt like I got a nice deal, grips are real nice. Haven't had a chance to get her to the range just yet.

I autopsied the revolver and the insides looked untouched. And of course I had a pair of N targets just lying around waiting for a gun. I picked it up worth the money, not a bargain, but still a good price. All I need now is a top hat and wax paper/paper. I just got off the phone with S&W and the new screws will be here in a couple of days.
