My handgun days started out with our issue Model 10; I fell into bad company and started shooting PPC back in the 1970's. Which eventually lead to a Model 14 to shoot Distinguished. And when the government quit supplying us with all the .38 Spl wadcutter match we could shoot, that led to my first K-22 Masterpiece.

Fast forward to today, and my favorite .22 rimfire is a Model 17-6 with the full length underlug - because it feels the same in the hand as the Model 14-6, and is also a 6 shot revolver with pretty much a mirror trigger pull. It's vanilla as the day I bought it, so I've never bothered to take pics.

I see they are impressively spendy today - presumably the collector factor, not the PPC competitor factor.

Somewhere along the line, I stumbled across this Hi-Standard set, apparently once belonging to one of the better competitive shooters in Idaho. That may have just been part of the sales pitch, but at any rate I snapped it up as my first semiautomatic .22, and have never bothered to consider buying another one.

I see similar Hi Standards for sale (without the accompanying slides and barrels) regularly on the Internet, and am kind of amazed at what seem to me to be relatively low asking prices.

I do my best to wear the two of them out. No luck yet.

Well, my favorites would be my 5 1/2 in heavy bbl S&W model 41, my 4 in bbl 617-1, my Ruger 5 1/2 in heavy bbl MKII target, and my 4 5/8 in bbl Ruger Single-six convertible.

Well, I won a couple of indoor matches back in the early '80's with a 6" Colt Woodsman Match Target, and I shot several squirrels and a bunny or two with it; it was very accurate and in a fit of stupidity I traded it. My current favorites: Revolver--Third Issue Colt Officers Model Match .22;
Pistol--S&W 7 3/8" Model 41. Both handguns are jewels.

Default Best for me.

I have no custom made .22 handguns, and will rely on nostalgia to help rate the best stock .22 handguns, for me.
A 4" flat sided, Colt Woodsman Match Target, pistol for the semi auto type.
A 4" mod 18 S&W revolver, for target revolver type.
A 2" S&W Mod. 34 revolver for smallest revolver size.

To help explain my choices, The .22 semi auto that I chose, a 1950 Colt Woodsman, is the .22 that I chose as a 16 year old, to compete in Bullseye Matches, in the 1950 era.

The S&W Mod. 18 Combat Masterpiece revolver that I chose, was to compliment, my .38 Combat Masterpiece and make them a matched set.

The 2" S&W Mod 34 I chose for a compact easy to carry .22 revolver, to carry on our shrew hunts together. my beloved, now deceased Min Pin dog, had gone blind, but still delighted in hunting, and catching shrews. as our area is infested with coyotes, and I wanted to be able to protect us from an attack. Those hunts are very near, and dear to me. Memories.

There's a lot of Ruger Mark Series on here and for great reason. I'll add one more. My only 22LR handgun is a Ruger Mark IV, 6" standard. It has never given me cause to buy another 22LR handgun. It drops squirrels like bad habits.

I love my Ruger Mk II. I keep looking for an excuse to buy something more expensive, can't be lack of performance.

I dearly love my 17-6, but I must confess I, it won't group nearly as well as the MkII. But I love it still!

Have had my Buckmark for a few years now, over 5k rounds thru it. Love the gun, with the only drawback to me would be that it isn't a simple item to break down for more thorough cleaning.
Enter my Victory, which I find (for my skill set lol) is just as accurate as the BM. And it is real easy to pull apart for cleaning. But both are fun range guns.

It is hard to choose, but 2 of my favorites are a ‘60s vintage Walther PP and an original, aluminum framed Ruger Bearcat. My suppressed Buckmark with a Tactical Solutions barrel is mighty fun, too.

For about a month or so I have been wanting a S&W 2213 or 2214 REALLY badly. I fell in love with one of those halfway ugly things in the ‘80s and forgot about them for 30 years. A buddy at work was telling me about his 422, and now I just HAVE to have one.

My ugly [there are streaks on one side where the blue got messed up ] carried hunting a lot and shot a ton 4.5 inch 2nd series MT is from 1952 [as old as my wife] but I’ve got a very nice 4.5 in thats a safe queen. Pristine blue with reddish grips and matching red swirl grip adapters. You will like yours. Try the grip adapters, they were only offered on this series and give the pistol a 1911 with a large mainspring housing feel. There are two sizes.

I just picked up this sexy 32-year-old, and took her to the range for the first time today. I think she's going to be my new favorite .22LR pistol!

Absolutely love my Model 48-4 4". I carry mine in a DeSantis 001 14 with 2x 10rd speed strips in the Simply Rugged ammo pouch.

My favorite of the thread is the Model 53 with the 22WMR cylinder inserts. What a cool piece! I really would love to have one!

There are some really nice revolvers and pistols in this thread. Only two I have is a GSG 1911 that has over 12,000 rounds through it with a recoil spring change which keeps on working and is pretty accurate. Also have a Buckmark that has been a tack driver but is a pain in the butt to break down to clean.

Although I love my 617 and have been shooting it more the past few months, I really like my Volquartsen Black Mamba. It's built on a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 frame. Shoots the lights out of any other .22 I've owned.

My favorite is a s&w model 18-4. A close 2nd is a couple ruger mkIIs', a 5.5 target and a 4-3/4" standard of which I prefer the standard.
3 different bbl lengthed single-sixes follow that...
I own and enjoy a couple hi-standards in longhorn revolver guise and a 6" sentinel, 3 more s&ws' as in 2" 34 square, 6" 617 square, and a model 17 which is on par with the 18 but I prefer the 4"...
Also enjoyed is the 1st rimfire handgun I fired in Colt's peacemaker 6"....I have a n.o.s. 7" buntline bbl that will someday maybe make it on for sentimental reasons of my father and uncle who each had one....
Also owned and enjoyed is my 1st new purchase of a rimfire pistol is a 5.5" flat sided heavy bbl browning buckmark....I will be selling off all but probably my 3 favorite and practical use since my interests' and time spent with all of these has changed in the last few years....somebody will certainly enjoy them as I have...cheers!

My favorite is a M 617, 4", 6 shot 22 LR along with a 22 WMR cylinder. The 22 mag is slightly more accurate than the 22 LR.

In second place and used just for punching cans and the occasional Mohave Green rattler is the High Standard Flight King Model 103 in 22 Short. What a great plinker. It also came with an extra barrel in 22 LR. In the 30 years I have owned this handgun I have only shot two mags worth thru the 22 LR barrel.
