Default New 432PD

Found a new 432PD at a local Florida dealer. Price was $599 but he lowered it to $499 so I will pick it up next week after the three day waiting period.

I have been picking up a number of .32 revolvers in the last couple of years ( a 1914 Tripple Lock; a 1950 pre 30 “I” frame snub nose; a 1969 4”, 31-1, and a Ruger .327).

Was sort of interested in the Charter Arms “Professional” model until I spotted this. Ordered some .32 H&R Mag. Federal 85 gr JHP and some Black Hills 85 grn JHP . I decided to pass on the Buffalo Bore hot ammo for now.

I was going to try and get my .38 Spec. 442 back from my retired Trooper daughter until I ran accross this 432PD. I like the various .32 rounds and I now have 6 shots in the 432 vs. 5 shots in thd 442.

May reconsider on the Buffalo Bore ammo pending comments from the forum.

As usual, any thoughts or advise will be appreciated.

Trooper Joe

You did well.!!!!!
I have been seeking info and asking questions about the various 32's.
Gunblast did a good write up about the 431 and 432.

My newly formed opinion based on what I have been able to read is that a modern 32 (something) can be as good a choice as a 38.

I have a 431PD with a bobbed hammer. The B-Bore heavy Outdoorsman is too much (365 Ft-Lbs) ..I did order some Georgia Arms 100 grain at 270 Ft-Lbs..that should be perfect. Great Gun by the way and you get a heck of a deal on that.

Sounds like a great price! I paid well over $500.00 for a used one a year or so ago. I guess I was willing to pay a little more since I rarely see them on Gunbroker and other on line gun sales. I have some 32 H&R Magnum 95 gr. LSWC for self defense.

My usual daily carry is a 632 with the Buffalo Bore 100g H&R Magnum ammo. Over my chronograph, it exceeds the energy of Remington's 38 Special +P 158g lead SWCHP from a 442. (Kicks like it, too, which in addition to the cost is why I rarely shoot the stuff.) So I don't feel like I'm giving up anything in a carry gun, and I get an extra round in the cylinder.

BTW, I also have a 30-1 and a 31-1 which have been reamed to take 32 H&R. Buffalo Bore has advised me that both are suitable for unlimited use of any of their hot 32 H&R Mag ammo. But I mostly shoot stuff at the 32 Long or mild H&R Mag level - I just take advantage of the longer chambers to use the same brass for reloading at all power levels.

I've used both the Federal and Black Hills. Both do great and the Black Hills is a bit hotter.

Good call on holding off with the Buffalo Bore ammo.

I have a 432PD and I've had a lot of trepidation about using BB in it for the following reason.

Open the cylinder and look at how thin the frame is under the barrel, that gives me pause for an aluminum alloy frame, I wouldn't be as concerned with a steel frame.

Do a forum search on "alloy frame crack" and you'll understand why I've avoided the really hot stuff.

Since most factory ammo is loaded to levels as to not blow up the less than robust H&R revolver the .32 H&R mag was designed for, there is definitely room for performance improvement when used in other guns, and that's where handloading the .32 H&R mag really shines.

In lieu of that, I think the Black Hills ammo is the best factory ammo for a boost in performance.

The BB H&R Mag ammo is clearly marked as NOT for use in H&R brand revolvers. But they advertise it as safe for use in all others.

I tried one cylinder of the buffalo bore JHP 100 gr load in my 431pd.

It shot fine, kicked a good bit, and hit what I aimed at.

But I had trouble extracting the empty shells. I managed get them out at the range, but almost gave up and went home to get a pliers.

I carry my 431 with Critical Defense 80gr.
