My new 66-8
Just got the new 66-8. If it shoots as good as it looks, it will be awesome. It seems mechanically ok. No binding, trigger pull is pretty stout in double action.
Thanks for all your input

You'll love it. My 4" version is my favorite K/L frame wheel gun.

I think you are going to really like this. I have both barrel lengths and have been gravitating to the 2 3/4" of late. I have the Hogue 500 X Frame grips on mine (on all my K,L,N frames) - makes them pleasant to shoot with the hottest ammo. I don't carry mine often but when I do, I just drop in the hip pocket of my Carharts (only get out for a couple of hours at most anymore).
Folks that I've let shoot the short bbl gun have remarked at how easy it is to hit with.
Enjoy,
Paul

I just got one too and mine shoots very well. The only problem I had was at my third range trip the main spring strain screw (hope thats the right name) came loose causing some light primer strikes. A quick tweak with a screwdriver and it has run flawlessly since then.

I've been liking the Model 69 I got a couple months ago so today I bought a 66-8 4 inch to go with it.
I tried it out on the way home, thinking this sure is a light DA pull.
Shot some Norma 158 FMJ and had one misfire.
When I got home and removed the grips, the strain screw was almost all the way out of the frame.
(You'd think the grips would prevent it from backing out so far)
I cleaned the screw, put some Loctite on it and tightened it all the way.
Pull is not as light now but still a very nice (and smooth) DA pull for a new gun.

First thing I do when I get a new revolver is check to make sure all screws are tight. Loose screws are fairly common on new S&W guns from my experience. Really like my 66-8 2.75". It's my go to "winter gun" -- when old cold hands sting from M69 recoil.
I may have posted these chrono results before -- sorry if redundant.
Labradar Muzzle Velocity (familiarization run)
60 Deg F
S&W M66-8 2.75" .357 Mag
130gr Fed Hydra-Shok JHP "Personal Defense" PD357HS2 H
.. 1,416 fps avg (84 fps ES) -- two rounds
140gr Underwood Xtreme Penetrator (Philips head mono metal).. 1,422 fps avg ( 5 fps ES) -- two rounds
158gr Horn Xtp - 15.0gr A2400 Std small pistol, new Starline...
1,316 fps avg (49 fps ES) -- six rounds
165gr CSWCGC (358156) - 13.0gr A2400 New Starline ...
1,183 fps avg (49 fps ES) -- six rounds
180gr Buff Bore
.. 1,312 fps avg ( 6 fps ES) -- two rounds
185gr LFNGC (Beartooth), 15.0gr Lil'Gun, CCI 400 New Starline.. 1,228 fps avg (14 fps ES) two rounds
200gr WLNGC (leadheads), 13.4gr H110, Fed 205, New Starline.. 1,102 fps avg ( 4 fps ES) two rounds
200gr WLNGC (leadheads), 14.4gr H110, Fed 205, New Starline.. 1,155 fps avg ( 2 fps ES) two rounds
(purported to be the Doubletap load info)
200gr WLNGC (leadheads) handload with Lil Gun
. 1,266 fps avg ( 2 fps ES) -- two rounds
Load data not given -- maybe too much of a good thing. Spent cases fell from chambers, and no obvious signs of over pressure. Recoil was heavy. Don't even know if this stabilizes.
If even needed, I would limit useage of the 180, 185, and 200gr loads in J & K Frame guns
Also ran two Buff Bore 180s thru 16" Rossi M92 carbine
. 1,894 fps avg ( 6 fps ES) -- two rounds
