Default S&W model 64 snub

Do anyone know when Smith and Wesson last produced a model 64 snub nose? They seem scarce to find.

Looks like they started the 2” in 1977 but no definitive end date. The 3” and 4” started in 1974. There area bunch of variations and product codes associate with the model 64.

This may not be of much help but for what it is worth, my 2 inch Model 64 is dated November 1984. The serial is AFA3XXX.

These were made fairly plentifully at least through the early 90s. I think they were still being made for security contracts into the mid to late 90s.

This is from personal memory. I'm sure others may be able to provide more specific info.

I recently bought a very nice 64-2 revolver with 2 inch bbl. This one has a strange serial number, it consists of two x's and 3 numbers. Normally I contact Smith & Wesson upon the purchase of a used gun to have them give me the year of production but I haven't done so yet.

The Model 64 2" can't be worth much because I have one.
My luck is when I am buying the weapon model is scarce and collectable.
When I am selling the same weapon is common and not worth what I paid for it.

My M-64-4 2" snubby, factory bobbed hammer, Serial # CCHxxxx was made in 1997. It's a former Brink's Security gun.
