Default Model 27-9

I have an opportunity to acquire a Model 27-9 (Classic). What are your thoughts? Is it a one piece barrel or the barrel with sleeve shroud? Quality vs an original 27? Anything I should look for? Thanks in advance.

Yes, they have a 1 piece barrel, unless they have changed recently. And they have that poor excuse for texturing on the top strap instead of the way the top strap was done back in the pre-mim days. As to quality compared to an older P&R gun, I personally rather the older guns myself. For one thing, no hole in the left side of the frame for a key and flag. Another thing I don't like about the newer guns is that you can't get them done in the famous S&W nickel finish any more, just in blue that is more black than blue. My newest model 27 is a 27-5 from around 1990. I have checked out some new model 27's at a LGS a few years ago and they seemed built at least OK, but I rather the look of the older guns with a hammer nose and forged internals.
