Default 329 PD cracked frame

Well first post on here after joining a few weeks ago I noticed my frame was cracked today on my 329. What is the procedure to get it fixed, cost, etc. Recall like the lightweight of gun. As it's carried a lot in a tanker rig with a few snake loads during snake season and riding 4 wheeler checking feeders and occasionally running across a pig or two.

Call S&W and explain, they should send you a shipping tag to send it back. That sucks man, sorry to hear that. You got any pics of the area so other guys can see where yours cracked?

Welcome and sorry .

If the affected area is in the thin underside of the frame into which the barrel threads S & W should make it right. If it is on the right side of the frame behind the cylinder (a common question) that is a different story.

Any explanation as to why they cover a crack in one place and not the other?
Mind you I'm not disputing this, just curious.

My guess is that often the side plate junction line is confused with a cracking line....?

I believe he's referring to the fact that sometimes people unfamiliar with S&W revolvers think the sideplate seam is actually a cracked frame.

It is where barrel screws into frame. If you open the cylinder it's in the 6 o clock position below the barrel.

First, welcome to the forum!

Second - This is an issue covered by S&W warranty and they will likely replace the gun with a new one, if they have that exact gun in stock. If they don't have another to send you, they may offer a substitute of your choosing, and sometimes, they will give you credit towards a new gun of your choosing (eg a rifle, instead of a 329).

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

Welcome to what is likely the most informative, well run forum out there! Lots of incredible folks with encyclopedic knowledge!

Just a few questions for curiosity and nothing to do with SWs warranty repair program. Answers may help others....
1) Did you buy it new or used? This could certainly help others better conduct a close, pre-buy exam.
2)What loads, if any, had you shot with it prior to noticing the crack.
3) How did you notice it, just routine cleaning, did it just not "feel" right, or.....
4) To the previous request and in the name of the above, "helping others", if you could take a pic, that would be great.

Thanks and again, welcome!!

I noticed the crack yesterday while cleaning it after I got the carbon cleaned up I noticed the frame had a shiny place on it and further inspection I saw the crack. I bought the gun used 4 or 5 years ago used and I inspected it good no cracks or cutting on blast shield. Will contact S&W this week on what to do. Wouldn't mine having a 4 inch 629 if they offer a replacement. Will figure out on how to post a picture tonight. Will put my 327 in rotation till I get it repaired.

I don’t think they can repair a cracked frame. Replace? Yes. Repair? Not so much.

They may not do anything for you at all, their lifetime warranty applies to original purchaser only. Then again, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Default Cracked frame update

Shipping label is on the way. Hopefully this won't take too long I sure miss my light weight gun while I'm piddling at the lease or fishing.

Good Luck !

My Momma always told me " Patience is a Virtue " I'm not exactly sure what that means but I soon learned that whatever I was waiting for was going to take a long time and if I kept bugging her about it she was going to say " Don't make me go and cut a switch !" ... I knew what that meant .

Just be patient ... the time will pass quickly .

If you returned it to the factory,# 1 priority is PATIENCE !
Be sure to keep notes of all emails , mail contact and phone calls until you get it back. Give them at least 4-6 weeks before you contact them . Make special note of the LTK number they give you, that will be your reference number for the gun inspection and any repair .
I sent my 629-1 back to S&W on Dec. 3rd. 2020 to have them replace the complete extractor assembly. After 4+ months , and a cost of $148.00 ,I got it back looking like new. Due to some recent major foot surgery, it will be several weeks before I can get it out to the range . Good Luck!
