686-6
Monday, I picked up my first S&W with the lawyer lock (686-6). The action is very smooth. Contacted customer service for an extra lock key. What do you think?

The 686 is an excellent gun, even with the lock. Enjoy!

Very nice would like to have a 6" to go with my snub , some are really wanting those OE grips . Contact S&W about a extra key , maybe a S&W member will send you one . Mine came with two and keep one in my range bag so far haven't need it.

This one was made in April 2019. The grips are OE. CS says they are sending me a key for free.

Want to know what I think? I think you found a honey hole! You scored a 27-2 AND the 686 this week! Great snags!

S&W 686- any dash in any barrel length is a fine gun. It is a gun for life. Nice buy, they will be harder to find in the near future.

Congrats !! Any 686/586 is a world class revolver. Internal lock ?? Pay no attention to it. Certainly no reason not to purchase a S&W revolver.

To Practical.
Harder to find in the future: The older style, per-lock, no hole's to fill, no MIM parts and few will trade them in. So hang on to them, pay the price and be a happy shooter.

Sister to the 586, they're excellent guns and a joy to shoot. Especially the six inches. Great purchase friend!

My new 686 Plus Deluxe. Just picked it up Saturday. It's my first Smith (my wife has had a J-frame for several years). Very smooth double-action trigger - only mildly heavy (11 lbs 7.5 oz). Very crisp single-action pull, even though it weighs in at 4 lbs 7 oz. Lovin' it so far!

I will be happy to send you a lock key. I was going through some items the other day that were in a bag and I laughed, thinking, "Why do I have all of these handcuff keys" and then I realized that they were S&W lock keys. Send me a PM and I'll dig one up for. I have a few not being used - anyone else need one?

I think it’s just the nice-looking wood grips. I figured I’d probably want to install a set of grips like that anyway, so why not order the model that already came with them.

I bought my 686 with 6 inch barrel in the mid-eighties. I have run countless rounds thru it and it has never failed in any way. Enjoy yours !

Thanks for the info; the grips on the "Deluxe" do look very nice. This is my own 6" 686 (non-plus version) with Hogue rubber grips. I picked this gun up lightly used (the owner had apparently lost his gun rights; it happens) and it appears to be a very good specimen. I had my Smith put in the Wollf Spring Kit and a good tune, and she shoots really sweet.

I am just a sucker for a deal on a good used gun. I'd been looking for a 686 Plus 6", but when I saw this beauty I snapped it up. The lower (used) price paid for the spring kit and the trip to the gunsmith. Fortunately I already had a whole infrastructure of 6-gun speed loaders and loader trays. So she's good to go.
I think that the current models of S&Ws are just fine. I regret the existence of the Hillary Hole, but in reality it doesn't do any real harm.

There are a lot of fans here of the 686 in all of its configurations. I hope that you enjoy yours for many years.

I think that's a very fine gun and beats all the dickens out of these various 44 Magnums that some folks seem to want that make no sense to me. Well done!

I have a S&W 686-6 “Competitor” performance center model with the under barrel system of removable customizable weights.
I mostly shoot it using the double action trigger mode only if I’m having a bad day do I resort to firing in the single action mode.
