Ahrends Grips declaring bankruptcy
From the Ahrend's site.
Ahrends Grips : Home
"We will not be taking any new orders after 02/22/2020.
Many of you know that a few years back Miss Judy lost a 10 year battle with cancer. I guess the business got neglected to some extent during that time. The medical bills and business debt gave me little choice but to take bankruptcy.
It appeared for a time that it could be worked so I could keep the business going but thats not going to happen. Im looking forward to the future.
It has been a real joy for Judy and me to meet so many great people. I thank you for all the business you have given us. There are so many good memories. Judy handled the phone and made so many lasting friendships.
The bank tied up the programs and even my name. It appears they are going to continue the grip line. There wont be any one named Ahrends associated with these grips and we only hope they can continue the quality we offered."
Cheers, Kim

So sorry to hear about Kim and his woes. Went through much the same a number of years ago. Wishing him the very best.

Sad news indeed. Hope the best for Kim. I really like his grips and have many sets - most came from Gripseller.

how sad... I use so many Ahrends grips on my S&W revolvers and always recommended them to fellow gun owners because of their quality and their characteristics. Even imported a whole box of different grips some years ago to Germany, when you could not buy them otherwise over here.
Good luck to Kim.
regards from Germany

A real shame. Real exotic wood grips for the average Joe or Jane.
I'm sure the bank will either mess it up in short order, or sell off the equipment at auction.

That is truly sad news. Over the years I've purchased a number of his grips, mostly for Smith revolvers but also a few sets of his 1911 grips.
He will be missed for sure.

It's really a shame that a true American craftsman such as Kim Ahrends is being forced into bankruptcy; especially so soon after losing Judy..
Sad testament to our times....
I have a couple of sets of his grips for my revolvers which are of impeccable quality and these will now take on a more significant meaning for me.
I wish Kim only the best in his future endeavors.

I just ordered a pair from gripseller, I always wanted a maple set for a M10.
Very sad. Get them while you can.

A real loss for the industry - IMO. I was aware of his wife having a significant health issue but not her passing.
Great products and she was an extremely pleasant person on the phone.

Sad to hear. Even S&W would use them on some factory stuff. It’s a real shame. Very nice products at very reasonable prices. I really liked his retro target stocks.

Yes, it's a shame that the bank forced him into bankruptcy. I've bought several pairs of his grips and of the ones I've bought, found his retro targets fit my hands best of his offerings. His retro combats are also a good fit for me too.

Too bad. Now there will be a rush and price increase on what is left. No bank will run this. they will just sell it off. They are in the money business, not grip business

I really hate to hear this. Kim knows how to make a set of grips that fit your hand and look good. I special ordered these two for my Magnum Hunters and they were in my mailbox in two weeks. They stay on the guns at the range too, they're that comfortable. I hope nothing but the best for Kim.

Ahrends are my favorite S&W grips. I usually do a bit of sanding on them to get rid of a few hot spots. A great product at a very fair price. Very sad news.

Sad indeed, not that I won’t be able to buy his fine grips in the future, but sad that Mr Ahrends has suffered so much.
I wish him well going forward.

Sorry about the whole situation. I hope that you can find some sort of way to put your life back in order. Having lost a wife, I know it is hard to get some satisfaction and oy back in your life, but I am sure she would want that for you

Better get your Spegels while you can, looks like Craig is getting ready to retire.
Finest grips for the $ imo.

I’m sorry to hear this. I have Ahrends grips on several of my S&W revolvers, and all my Colt Government Models. It’s a sad day when a skilled craftsmen is forced out of business.

Does he require payment when you order from him or just before he ships? It says his wait time for revolvers is 2 years!

Been on the fence for a while. This sad news pushed me over.
Just bought a set from gripseller on eBay - K/L round to square conversion, maple, tung oil, retro targets. Can’t wait to put ‘em on my 6” 66-5
Edit: Close, but haven’t been quite thrilled with either set I’ve tried so far. These look like just the ticket.

Wow, 40+ replies and not one bad word about the man or his grips. I can only hope to live my life in such a way that people would say the same things about me. I too am saddened to hear this.
I have three sets. Two are in this family picture
The M66 has a set of smooth tacticals, the 24-3 in the center has finger groove tacticals. The 17 lower right normally wears a set of Retro targets, but I was experimenting with a set of Herret's bullseye grips (ended up deciding I didn't care for them.)
This news prompted me to order a set of N frame retro targets. Maybe put them on the new 27-2?

I wish the best to Mr. Ahrends and was sad to hear about his loss and now the business issues.
Great product and beautiful work by a great craftsman.
I really like the last ones but I have them on a beater Model 10 (yes I know with the lock) I found for dirt cheap. Focus on the grips.
I have some others but these are what I have mounted for now.
I really need to take some pics with a better camera.

That’s terrible news the poor guy loses his wife to sickness and now this. I had talk to Mr. Ahrend some years ago either two or three years ago after his wife passed I had bought a bunch of grips from them for my J frames I love their boot grips. I sent a 340 PD Teddy Jacobson for action work with one of Mr. Ahrend grips on it Teddy Jacobson loved it he said it was very slim in the hands is great for pocket carry better than the Eagle Secret service grips. I wish Mr. Ahrends the best with more terrible times in his life Not to mention he was a very nice guy on the phone very very nice.

My sincere condolences to Kim on the loss of his wife. Nothing could be more individually devastating than the departure of a spouse to the afterlife.
I have long used Ahrends stocks on S&Ws that I felt a need to customize to my individual tastes - they always had a style that I found both visually pleasing and functionally perfect for the gun's intended use.
It pains me to learn that they may no longer be available. Perhaps, like Ropers, in the future genuine Ahrends stocks will become sought after collectibles, if not already following this announcement.
Hang in there Kim. You have done very well in your craft, and are much appreciated for your diligent efforts. Best wishes.
John

Sorry to hear about this!
Here are a few of the Adhrends I have! I've been wanting a set of J frames but procrastinated! Ya snooze, ya loose!
