Default More Grip Guidance Needed

As I get deeper into shooting DA revolvers, especially the larger calibers, I'm finding that I need larger grips in order to shoot them straight.

I have a Model 21-4 that is giving me fits, shooting consistently left, albeit with wonderful accuracy. I'm not crazy about target grips because they're so bulky, so is there something between the narrow combat grips and the large target grips?

For N-frames Pachmayr Gripper/Decelerator grips are great for shooting. Not great to look at, but they have subtle finger grooves, a palm swell, and a sort of checkered surface.
The black Hogue rubber monogrips are another that feel/shoot a lot better than they look - if the finger grooves fit your hand. They do mine. But man are they UGLY.

Hogue wood grips.

One, two or no finger groove options. Wider than their rubber versions so they fill up the hand better and distribute recoil better. Fill in the space behind trigger guard also to reduce battering the support fingers.

I "second" the Hogue Hardwood grip recommendation. Several different woods to choose from in addition to the variable fingergrip options.

Another thing I like about them is that the upper horn areas are sculpted the same on either side, allowing for use of speed loaders on the left side, and full display of the S&W side plate stamping on the right.

Not easy to find in a LGS, but a quick internet search will yield several sources. I recommend Hogue highly!

No. I've been shooting SA's for quite a few years now and find that even with them, hand-filling grips make me shoot better.

I really like Culinas on an N frame, it's more similar in size to K frame targets that fit my hand just a little better than the large factory N frame targets. Here are some English Walnut Culinas that I had checkered.

I am very partial to Magna stocks with a grip adapter. Some makers try to duplicate the feel in wood or rubber but it is not the same.

If you’re right handed, it can also be finger position on the trigger and pull.

I have the same problem and I did fix it for the most part moving to a service/magna grip. I notice I was yanking on the trigger in double and in single-action; most likely due to getting “trigger-finger” injury back in my crew-chief days.
The Magna grip angles your hand forward and changes your trigger finger to “pull-up” instead of back and left.

While there's nothing better than having a set of grips made so the palm swells, finger grooves, flair at bottom not interfering by being too wide for your pinky and just the right amount of cover at the trigger guard, its worth a look at Nills and the others mentioned above, and see profiles, as to what each gripologist has
found to work for each of our varied sizes.

Filled the finger grooves down a bit to make it less bad.
Airbrushed red to hide blood stains.

I found the OEMs on my M460 Carry has my hand too low on the gun and the other parameters not quite right either.

Left my 460 color code sheet at home and mistakenly took my 458WinMag data.
Big difference between a full load of TrailBoss and stout loads of #9.
The hammer actually touched my hand.

* Always appreciate when posts contain the grip's different angles for others on a griphunt. *

Check the threads here for Ropers etc to see the possibilities.

Bought an 870 SuperMag not long ago and after running various Trap loads I chambered a High Velocity 3.5"s that I never used in my Browning O/U.
Getting up close, like on my BT99, my thumb grazed my nose.
Woke me up!!!

A longer forearm that brings my left hand closer to the receiver, and doesn't hamper anything, is on the todo list.
I need to live forever.

My boy and his Marine Gunnery Sergeant/Machinist buddy tried everything for our 629/4" and just keep the OEM rubber Hogues for now.
Bad Papa was too busy to make something, but he does clean his firearms properly now and I'll make that Marine something special.
He might be a Brigadier by then.

Marine only missed a few, in a few years, at 300yds, with the OEM Colt 6920s irons.
Got my boy solid at 200yds.

Glad you found something that works locally.
