Default Year of Manu for 686?

I have a NIB Smith & Wesson 6” 686-4. 6-shot. Literally removed from factory original box for the first time for pictures. Serial # BPT6421. Still has factory dust and test firing residue on it. Obviously this is a pre-lock Smith. I have not spun the cylinder nor pulled the trigger.

Can anyone tell me when it was manufactured? I searched the database and it did not come up. I'm planning on selling it.

In this era the Special Order code is thought to be the Julian date the gun was packed and ready to ship.

4263 = the year 4 (you have to know the decade, but the 686-4 was being made in 1994, not 1984 or 2004), and the 263rd day of that year (or September 20).

That was a Tuesday. Enjoy!

It may also have been September 10, 1993 - don't know which of the two codes printed there is the correct one. Sorry for the confusion.
