Who’s carrying a revolver these days? Let’s show them off...
Ok, so I’ve been guilty of being a mostly semi auto guy. It’s what I carry at work so I’ve carried similar off-duty. However I’ve just re-acquired my 640-1 from a friend and am really appreciating a revolver again. Between the 640-1 and a beater 642 I picked up a few years ago I’m seeing a lot of opportunity for these (I’m already sensing an L or K comp in my future...)
While I was my departments range master (on staff for just under 25 years...) I saw them become fewer and fewer - especially amongst the newer officers. Only a few of us senior guys carry them anymore.
Who’s still ccw’ing a revolver these days - share a pic, and if you want to say why you still carry a wheelgun please let’s educate these younger generations...

Well, I have given this opinion often. So anybody tired of reading this, sorry. I always liked Revolvers best. After working in Gun Shops for years and trying several Semi-Autos, I never found one I couldn’t live without. I wanted the 1911 but was afraid if the **** hit the fan I would choke and forget to release the safety. I didn’t have good luck with the DA Para Ordnance. I always went back to Revolvers. I have had a lot of different make revolvers and liked most of them. At this stage in life I have sold and given away about everything but my shooters and carry guns. I carry J-Frames I like shooting them so that’s what I take to the Range most of the time. These are the latest carry guns. I don’t have pictures of everything els. I could have and carry anything I want but, this is it

My 642-1 was my EDC for several years.
When I did carry it, it was in a Side Guard Holsters Quick Clip IWB. I still carry this way from time to time.
Nowadays I carry my 642-1 mostly as a BUG in a Wilderness Tactical Renegade ankle holster. My primary EDC is a Beretta PX4 Compact.
I rarely pocket carry, but when I do it's usually in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster.
I will sometimes carry it in a Blue Force Gear pocket holster, which is thinner and more comfortable, but as you can probably tell from the picture it is on the snug side. I have to make sure to catch the extension on my pocket when drawing.
As to why, they still have many good attributes, particularly in a close-range, counter-ambush role. I particularly like them for ankle carry because they have a lower center of gravity, and thus more comfortable/stable than grip-heavy semi-autos, and they seem to be more tolerant of dirt and debris that ankle guns invariably collect than some similarly concealable semi-autos (I'm thinking more of the subcompact .380s than, say, subcompact Glocks, but I have no interest in trying to ankle carry a Glock).

Would if I could, but this IS New Jersey...
Before the PA AG negated all their reciprocity agreements I did carry a 638 in a Galco ankle glove for work, when I was anywhere but NJ or NY. My territory took me from VA to ME, but that was a lifetime ago.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

In my youth I was into Sig's, Glocks, HK P7s. I'd carry one of those as my EDC.
Now that i've grown up i've come back around to revolvers. These days I carry a Kimber K6s in 2" or the DASA 3" Kimber. Occasionally i'll carry my Smith Model 13 3".
I don't dislike my semi autos and I have quite a bit of them in various brands. I'm enjoying collecting 3rd Gen Smith Semi's but am enjoying my accumulation of Smith revolvers as well.
I don't feel inadequate carrying a revolver at all. Some of my friends feel like they need to carry a Glock with a 15+2 and an extra mag. I feel just fine with a 6 shot and an extra speed strip or speedloader.

The Reliable Revolver
Hello all S&W Enthusiasts.
My S&W 637 38Spl.
I like a Revolver because it's safe, simple, and
will always fire (don't have to worry about lost
or bad magizine or slide problems).
Reloads with a good Lead Cast SWC/DEWC bullet
takes care of any pests.

Always one of these. For the past 13-14 years it’s mostly been my trusted 340 PD but occasionally the M60 no dash from 1967 gets to ride along. Both in their Mika Pocket Holsters.

I carry a S&W 640 Pro.I just love it. For me it's the perfect carry piece. I carry it both inside and outside my waistband. That being said, I am also breaking in a CZ 75B. for times I feel I need more. The revolver will never be replaced.

I tried a few different small semi-autos but just could not find one that was comfortable and "easy" to carry and conceal. A few years ago I picked up an M&P340 from a fellow forum member. I tried various ways of carrying and then hit upon this. I know the holster is not correctly belted but this works for me. It is out of the way and fully loaded barely breaks a pound. Easy to draw and re-holster. Even when driving I don't notice it.

For the past 20 years this has been my choice.
For the past 11 months I've carried my 686-4 357 mag revolver, next month I'll carry my Defender again.

I carry a Model 431PD in 32 Magnum most days.
It's a six shot J frame the same size as a M36.
Why?
It's reliable.
It's light weight: 13.4 oz.
Hides real well in a pants pocket (or jacket pocket).
Easy to reload with a HKS speed loader (slightly smaller than the 38 caliber HKS version).
Mine is stock except for a LG-105 laser boot grip now days.
Use Hornady Critical Defense ammo.

My new carry revolver
Dear Friends,
My gunsmith, Dave Clements, recently finished working his magic on this Ruger 44 Special GP100. It has a custom fixed rear sight that he regulated for Buffalo Bore’s full wadcutter loads with the custom front sight. It is now DAO and has a very smooth action. He did not install the trigger stop, that was done by by my previous gunsmith. Mr. Clements did adjust the trigger stop so that there is no risk of a malfunction from limited trigger travel. I am very happy with it and I alternate between carrying this revolver and a baby chiefs.

I'm a "Smith and Wesson guy," but I have a minor in Colt. My EDC is a 2019 Colt Cobra. Perfect size for me. Between a J and a K. Six shots, nice trigger, a grip I can get my hand on and a fiber optic front sight that just jumps out at me. I can't say I shoot "lights out" with it, but I shoot it a LOT better than I ever have any J-frame.
I carry it every day, and at night it does duty on the nightstand. I'm pretty fond of it.

That’s a nice Colt Defender I could see the porting from the custom shop I remember seeing one of those years ago that came out of the Colt custom shop for those round porting holes from the 90s.

These two, together or either alone. But the 45 Shield, which I hate because it is ugly and amazing, gets carried a lot too.

I usually carry a 632 with Buffalo Bore 100g +P hollow points in a Lobo enhanced pancake holster, with a 6-round speed strip for a total of 12 available rounds. More muzzle energy than Remington's 158g +P 38 Special load, and an extra round in the cylinder compared to a 642 or any of the other 38 Special J frames. (I've tried the 64 and 65 K frames in a comparable Lobo holster, but they're just too much weight for me to enjoy carrying all day.)
I am also comfortable carrying a 9mm Shield, and use that as my IDPA competition gun now that they have a class for such micro autos. But generally I just think the 632 is even less likely to make an identifiable bulge under the sweater (winter) or Hawaiian shirt (summer) that I use as a cover garment. And considering the places I usually go, concealment is more important than total shots available.

I carry either a 325 or a 396. Would post picks but am away from home working. I also picked up a 296 not long ago and it will be getting some carry time. Wife now carries an I frame 32 when she goes for her morning walk and a 642 with 38s other times.

I routinely carry a revolver.
Most days I pocket carry this one:
M649
Some days I might carry one of these two:
Custom M64 and my M10 - second ever revolver purchased a looooong time ago:
That's just concealed carry, of course. My out-in-the-woods guns are bigger.
I carry pistols, too, I admit that.

I should note that if and when I ever get back to outdoor activities such as biking or jogging this old Cobra was perfect in a front-carried fanny pack. It is one of the self defense guns I routinely carried long before Texas passed its first CHL law.
And yes, I know the Hogue grips are unusual but I hated the original Colt grips and these made the gun much easier to shoot.

Compared to the full power 38 special how is the recoil of the 32 mag?
Thanks

Depends on the load. Most commercial 32 H&R Mag rounds are limited in power - and so in recoil - to the strength of the original H&R guns, which were stronger than the original S&W 32 Long top break revolvers from the 19th century, but not much if any stronger than the contemporary 32 Hand Ejectors. These rounds are considerably lower recoil than most 38 Special rounds from a similar size gun.
For future reference, among "ordinary" 32 H&R rounds from a 2" M432 the Hornady 80g JHP round recorded 978fps/170 ft lbs of energy, the Federal 85g JHP recorded 893fps/151 ft lbs, the Black Hills 85g JHP recorded 915fps/158 ft lbs, and the Federal 95g LSWC recorded 892fps/168 ft lbs.
The Buffalo Bore 32 H&R 100g +P, though, is a different animal. These rounds are marked on the box as NOT for use in H&R revolvers, but are safe in any other "modern" guns chambered for 32 H&R. I also have a 30-1 and a 31-1 which have been reamed from 32 Long to take 32 H&R, and Buffalo Bore has advised that their 100g +P round is safe "for unlimited use" in those guns, too. (I don't know about their 130g +P hard cast flat nose - I didn't ask about that one.)
For the Buffalo Bore +P 100g I recorded 1100fps/269 ft lbs of energy from a 2" M432, and 1234fps/338 ft lbs from a 3" 31-1 (on a different day). For comparison, Remington's 38 Special 158g LSWCHP +P load recorded 820fps/236 ft lbs of energy from a 2" M49 (on a still different day).
From a 2" J frame, the 32 Mag 100g +P Buffalo Bore round is just as unpleasant to shoot as the slightly less powerful Remington's 38 Special 158g +P, even when shot from a steel frame 30-1 instead of the airweight 432. The Buffalo Bore round was extremely accurate out of the 432, but is too uncomfortable and too expensive (~$1.50/round) for me to shoot very often.

Just like an olde stick in the mud, same thing for years and years. Model 36 from the mid 60's and Model 37 from around 1975 (both bought new). 36 in the classic #5BHL Bianchi and the 37 in a little Lobo pancake. The only thing I change around are the grips depending on what I'm wearing at any instant.
Faithful revolvers.

The hotter 32 mag loads are like standard pressure 38 Special loads in a 442 or other airweight J frame.
The lighter 32 mag loads have very light recoil. Almost don't notice the recoil.
Shooting 32 Long feels like a 22lr.

J frame for years
Two simple reasons for my 50+ years of J-Frame EDC:
1. Practice makes best for me, and 2. Reliability. Now at age 75 the eyes are getting a little deceiving, low light is becoming an issue, and for sure...there are lots of other guns, wheel or semi's in my collection that I shoot better, higher load capacity, more powerful cartridge's, BUT...…….I EDC for protection only.
Model 36 for years replaced by a Model 60, replaced again by a Model 637. 38 Special for twice weekly practice sessions in years gone by, stepped up to Plus P with the 637. Comfortable S&W leather on good, stiff Galco belt.
Bottom line for me at least: I'm not dissing anything anyone else wants or needs to carry, I'm just very, very comfortable with what I can shoot decently, and have known for years how it rides, where exactly it is at, how it will point and all of that equals confidence for me and my chosen firearm.

I started my LEO career in 1983, so Revolvers were still the standard back then. Revolvers are still all I carry. Been carrying these two Rugers lately with the LCR .327 Federal Magnum loaded with Speer 100 grain GDHP now being my EDC. Glad there are still plenty of us Revolver Guys here!

Either primary or secondary I carry the custom 642 in my avatar cause it always works. Before that, a variety of J frames going back to my Model 38 from 1972. For 2 years, I carried a Colt Agent as BUG cause the K frame speedloaders worked with it also.

Is that an 8 shot speed strip, if so, where did you find it?

Been carrying my M49 both off-duty and backup since the mid-80's. See no reason to change now.

This is my revolver rotation. Currently 637-1 in a desantis summer heat holster. I like 640 no dash or 642 performance center in a sticky holster, or 640-1 as my winter carry.
