Finally got a "Bulldog".
Wanted one since firing a PA Constable's some 30 years ago. He couldn't keep it on the paper at 10 yards. I put 4 of 5 in the black for him. He said he guessed he needed more practice. Anyway, since the UK's Webley coined the moniker in 1872 someone has been producing them. Now S&W is too under the name Model 69. I bought one, but have yet to shoot it. Wednesday I'm figuring. Carried well yesterday (yeah, I know I should have shot it first).

Good choice. My preferred carry piece is a charter bulldog. I carry the 1911, I carry the K frame I carry the jframe.... but I keep coming back to the Charter Bulldog every time. Lightweight. Easy to conceal. Accurate and recoil no worse than my J with +P.
Carry loads 200gr speer gold dots over 10gr of Unique
Training loads 200gr cast least RN over 10gr Unique
obligatory snubbyfan holster carrying my M29 which is my go to desert gun/holster combo in the below training photo

Model 69 great with 44 specials...
I really like mine...great with 44 specials...has a heavier forcing cone than the Model 696...only wish would be that they make it with a 5" barrel that would be legal in Ohio for deer...

Got a M-69 2 3/4in my self....
It carries easy and I "can" shoot mags in it if needed.
Makes a great 44 spec.
Matches with my Rossi M-92 carbine well.....

I've got one of them. 44 spl are much nicer to shoot but the magnums are fun! Once I get some components, I'll be making some hot specials for it.

My 2.75" 69 has become my most carried revolver. It is the perfect hiking & fishing companion. No doubt you will enjoy yours.

10 gr of Unique, 200 gr bullet in a .44 Special Bulldog? I shot a few 7.5 gr loads in one a long time ago and can still remember the sting.

Zero sting. I shot the hits super snub test:
B-8 Target
10 Yards….5 shots in 8 seconds. Two hands
5 Yards….5 shots in 5 seconds. Two hands
3 Yards….5 shots in 3 seconds. Strong hand only.
In that photo. I did it that day four times.
Every time I made par and had all shots in the black of am NRA b-8

I think I'd give that load the nickname "Hand Grenade!"

Hope that Bulldog makes it for a while longer without molecular separation.

I have a M69/4", my favorite .44M, and I wish every day they would release a 6" M69. Or S&W would set up the custom shop to install a 6" barrel. If they did that, I'd get a 2 3/4", I promise.

Did a little online research, and a reputable website showed projected data from 10 gr Unique in a .44 Magnum case. Peak pressure was 27,200 psi with 1200 fps and a 240 gr bullet. Figure higher pressure in the smaller Special case.

Alan, that 10 grains would be about a third more Unique than I would consider putting in a 44 Special case (behind a Keith LSWC.) For a plinking load I don't think I was using more than about 8 grains in a 44 Mag case. I haven't shot my Model 29-2 in many years, but I just don't remember loading it anywhere near that hot with Unique.
For full power loads, my go to powder was 2400, but even then I stayed well under old Elmer's loads to take it easy on the gun (and my hand!)

I always thought it was made by some British outfit, but I'm beginning to think it was Belgian for the American Market (Victorian Era.) I inherited it along with a few other obscure revolvers from my gunsmith grand uncle. His tastes in handguns were eclectic, to be generous!

That has quite the businesslike, no-nonsense look to it.

I own a Smith M69 which is almost a work of art in its fit & finish, and while more compact than a M29 it's by no means small.
My Charter Arms Bulldog is smaller and much lighter, yet perfectly capable of handling "top" .44 Special loads. My carry load is Matt's 250gr. deep cavity, soft-cast lead HP over 9.3gr. of Blue Dot for 764 fps / 324 fpe.
