686-1 2 1/2 In. To buy? Not to buy?
I saw a 686-1 with a 2 1/2 inch barrel today in a local pawn shop. It has been used with handling marks and some scratches that will most likely polish out with a little effort. It is 80% plus and I think will clean up more. It has the M stamp and pacymayer rubber grips. They want $545 plus tax. What do y'all think about this one?

If it's in mechanically good condition (tight lockup, timing, alignment, etc), I'd get it.

If it passes the basic mechanical checks, buy it! A scotchbrite pad will make it look new.

I already have a 686 4” no dash at home. Wasn’t sure of the scarcity or desirability of the 2.5 inch. Is there value at that price or is it on the high end. The prices I have found aren’t stable enough for me to make a good judgement on it...lol

Sounds good to me. I have a 3 inch and absolutely love it. One of my very favorite guns.

I paid $500 or $550 for my 686-1. It sounds like the one you're looking at was in the same shape as mine. It was used for years as a truck gun. Cleaned up real nice.
I've seen them sell on GB for $1K+.

A 686-1 snub or any prelock snub for that matter for 500 give or take is a heck of a steal in any condition if all tbe mechanics are spot on. Better go buy it quick as I am sure it will be gone soon.

I would have bought it on site at that price. This one is my favorite.

Ahrends, I ordered them this past Dec 30th.
Glad I got a pair before they shut down.

I remember there was a thread recently, where the OP asked if to buy the gun was a good idea.
After he heard everyone's resounding, yes! He went to buy it and it was gone by the time he got there.
Sometimes, one doesn't know a good deal. That's fine.
That 686-1 2.5" would sell at a grand here in Cali. All day long. And they dont surface all that much , even if they made practically made 2.5"ers in every dash and they're still made.
It took me a looong time to find mine. And it's a dash 3.

Mine is my everyday carry. Wonderful little gun with a nasty bite of seven rounds.

My humble advice: ALWAYS buy a snub when you can (and the conditions are right). Of course, I go back to the 1970's when the antis tried to ban quality snubs as "Saturday Night Specials." You never know...
