I have a question about this cylinder
Hello!
I was told by a very competent gunsmith that this cylinder was from a stainless model 57 in .41 Mag. However, he had no idea what the engraved "W" over "M" came from. Does anyone have any idea what it means? Also, this cylinder looks to be unused. Does it have any value to it?
Thank you!
Old Gun Guy

Odds are, the engraving was someone's initials. This might be a case of someone buying W.M's customized revolver, then taking it to a gunsmith to have the customized cylinder replaced with an non-customized cylinder. Does this cylinder have value? It would if your initials are W.M.

A stainless cylinder would be from a 657. The model 57 is the carbon steel version
As a cylinder, it is not worth much.
Do you have more parts from the same revolver available to you? If it were a complete cylinder assembly with the extractor, it could bring in $100 or higher if the WM did not bother you

The cylinder charge holes look big for a .41 Magnum - have you tried putting rounds in it?

In the seventies S&W mounted cylinders on a piece of walnut and sold them as pencil holders I think this might be one of those cylinders.

Initials on the cylinder are WM, some folks shorten the name WalMart to WM. WalMart just established a policy of posting signs on their entry doors politely asking that people not openly carry a firearm into their stores.

There's a Jim Stark on here that run a war machine in the past! Does that count? Anyway, I think the WalMart story is gooder!
