Default Fiber Optic Sights for 627PC, 625JM and other DX sight S&Ws

As many of you know, the S&W 627PC and 625JM often come with gold bead style sights. These sights work for some; not so much for others. I replaced both of the front sights on my 645JM and 627PC with the Hi Viz fiber optic sights shown below. As you may know, the DX sights on these guns is spring loaded, thereby easy to remove and replace; easier than the pinned sights on most of the K and L frame guns like my 686. I have experimented with the sights both from Revolver Supply dot com and Hi Viz (available on Amazon.) Both will work, however the Hi Viz seems to go on easier and at least for me required no filing. Here is the product link:

This is the 645JM with the Hi Viz sight. Have the red one on my 627PC too.

I have been a big fan of Smith & Wesson's IFS ever since it's debut on the old Model 29DX/629DX family of revolvers.

Not a big fan of fiber optic front sights (even though I have equipped a 627 with them)

The IFS made it very simple to change my oldest 8 shot. Model 627 over to night sights

On my Model 327JM I tried Smith & Wesson's light gathering Patridge (1 of 2 front sights supplied with the revolver), but was not totally won over by it. I switched back to the McGivern Gold Bead

Does Hi Viz make a .295 DX FO?
I can only find .205 and .250
I wish Smith had the DX IFS on all their adjustable sight guns. Colt’s doing it with their new revolvers. I hate drilling the new sight blades at the risk of enlarging the pin hole.

I make a bunch of pin on and DX black and fiber optic sights, F/O rear sight, plus Competitor front sights and specials.

They make different heights. You might try contacting them.

I'm not saying Fiber Optic sights are best for everyone. But I will say that for me a fiber optic sight is remarkably better than either a gold bead sight or a black front sight. I usually shoot at an indoor range, and the gold bead sight makes it difficult to create a good sight picture. The FO sight makes for much quicker target acquisition and I get good groups. YMMV. I do like the standard Smith & Wesson red ramp sight too -- if I found one in the DX configuration I might give it a try on my 625JM or 627PC. But maybe not -- I'm doing pretty well with the Hi-Viz FO sights.

Don't forget about Dawson Precision, they make F/O sights for all those models also . I like their sights because the dot is small and the sights still have nice defined edges for a good sight picture. I have several on autos and one on my 986.

UPDATE -- got the 627PC to the range with the new Hi Viz Fiber Optic sight. Previously I had zeroed the revolver with the OEM gold bead sight. I was pleased to see that the Hi Viz FO sight maintained the zero, requiring no adjustment at all. Obviously it was well-engineered to specification. Have to say, at an indoor range, where there is no sun to glint off of the gold bead, the Fiber Optic sight was far superior, at least for me.

Thanks for posting that. I've never tried a light pipe but you've got my curiosity up. I shoot outdoors so gold beads work pretty well for me. I have them on a 625 and a Gold Cup. I never realized the 625 was that easy to change.

Yes, the 625JM and 627PC both have the "DX" sight, which is spring-loaded, and relatively easy to change out. Since I largely shoot indoors (and any home defense situation would also be indoors) I very much prefer the FO sight. The Hi Viz works very well in the 625 and 627.

A lot of the new S&W's have the DX style front sight system.

Good to know. It is a very good system; similar to the way Ruger does the front sight on the GP100 revolver.
