Default 4in 627 non-performance center

This auction just finished...hundreds north of what I thought it would. These are neat guns though. They are the only classic / conventional looking 8 shot 357’s except for a handful of blued and nickel LH guns.

Rare S&W 627-5 4" Barrel 8 Shot NOT Performance Series - Revolvers at GunBroker.com : 858795831

Actuaally, Smith & Wesson used a heavy barrel profile on these in place of the Model 27's tapered barrel

That is what prevented me from buying one of the production 627s when there were first produced.

As to the Carbon Steel 8 shot Model 27s, considering all barrel lengths there is close to 2000 of them in the marketplace. If there were a way to investigate it, I would bet that the number of 8 shot Heavy barrel Model 627s is probably not too far off that same number. These were not good sellers.

Yes, I realize. I meant classic or conventional in the sense they are round and not slab sided. I picked one up a few years back for that reason.

If I had seen that auction I might have bid, but that does seem to be a steep price! Neat gun.

I wonder why not. I have one in this configuration and I love mine.

Would love to have one. Not at that price.

The 4” Pro Series came out very shortly after offering a moon clip cut cylinder and interchangeable front sight for only $50 more. Tough competition.

Me neither. But being scarce and seldom for sale, 2 bidders saw an opportunity that doesn't come along often. The 3rd place bidder's offer is in the ballpark. I bought one w. box at a live (in-person) auction for about that price. Had been looking for one for quite some time, so I was prepared to offer about another $100..no more.
