MIM parts in current S&W revolvers
Hello and my apology if somebody already answered this question.
Anyhow, in another forum in Europe somebody mentioned that after S&W initially started using MIM parts in revolers, apparently, they realized that that wasn't right move and returned back to forged parts.
I never heard about this. Can anybody confirm story above, or this is just another pipe dream, nostalgia for good, old times!?

I have two Model 500s, the older one, a Performance Center has a forged hammer, the newer one, the original style, has a MIM hammer but I think jbtrucker is correct, current production is, if not all, mostly MIM. Don

As I understand it, some models in the Performance Center did have forged hammers and triggers after MIM was begun, up to the time they ran out of parts.

I think Smith & Wesson started migrating to MIM components in their double action revolvers around 1998 or so and to my knowledge still is using them.

Though we manly men like forged parts.....
There isn't a thing wrong with MIM performance or durability. In fact, it's got quite a good record. If I had a deal on a gun I wouldn't turn up my nose for it having MIM parts.
Many manufactures had trouble when adapting to making MIM parts, but when the flaws get ironed out, they do well.

Even if they did go back to the old ways I don't think there are enough craftsmen anymore to do the job right. Shoddy is the order of the day.

Exactly - nobody left to even train a new assembly guy for hand fitted forged parts.

No point in producing forgings that have to be hand fit vs drop in MIM parts that work just as well. They will never go back to forging.
