Default White Outline Rear Sight

What is the best/proper way to redo the white outline on the rear sight after the original factory white outline has either faded away or been rubbed off?

If you have shaky hands like I do, replace the W/O rear sight with a new one.

Can you replace just the blade with a new one?

Although I have not done it, I know that the blade can be replaced. I have tried to create the white outline on a blade that was all black before and the results were not satisfactory. Personally I would have to buy a white outlined blade and install it.

You could try using masking tape to carefully block off all but the edge you want white, paint it, then remove the tape once dry.

That would most likely eliminate the “shaky hands” factor from your finished product.

Before you do anything else, try cleaning it with 409. Could just be dirty

I was able to buy new White Outlined Blades from Smith but they are painted on and not etched in. Works though, you just need to know which height when ordering.

Well, I have found the solution without replacing the rear sight blade.

My wife has a Sharpie Enamel pen in white color. It has oil based enamel paint. Since the sight blade already had the indentation for the white outline, she has redone the white outline with this pen and it looks absolutely perfect. She said the paint just flowed into the indentation.
