New to Me, 629-3 Classic
Hello,
I picked up a 629-3 Classic tonight for $660. I’m going to replace the rubber grips with some Hogue round to square butt wood grips, I’m thinking cocobola. Could I get help with the year please? The serial number is: BKR6929.
Thank you.

I decided to order the Lamo Camo grips with a stripe cap from Hogue. From the pictures, they look nice but I’m a little nervous. If they don’t look good on the 629, I’ll try them on my stealth hunter...hopefully they’ll look nice on one of em.

Those Hogues with medallions were made only for a short time and many people would be happy to find a set. I recommend keeping them. They are probably original to the gun.

$660?! You crook ! Nice find. I would have snapped that up in a heart beat too. Shark bait is right, those grips are most likely original to the gun and very comfortable when shooting full house loads. Even with the full underlug.

I think the Classics with the full under lug and endurance package was around the 1990 time frame.

I thought I’d post an updated picture of my 629-3 classic with the new grips. I also polished it up a bit with filtz and renaissance wax. Still waiting on the range to open to shoot it, should be any day now.

I think you'll really enjoy shooting it. I found that the full underlug really does make a difference on these. The interchangeable front site is another great feature.
My 629-3 has a BKD serial number. My notes indicate a 1991 ship date. I opted for a brass bead front site and Culina round-to-square conversion target grips on mine.

Here's my dash 3. It was my first 44 mag. Kinda got me addicted. I really like the feel of the Hogues on it. I think you'll enjoy yours (when the kung flu is gone).

75vette, your 629 looks mint! Mine has some scuffs on it but I’m hoping to buff them out eventually. What wood are those grips and did you have any problems with the fit? My grips don’t match up perfectly on the lower backstrap.

Zipty6, thank you for the information. If BKD was made in 1991, I’m hoping BKR was made in 1992. When I bought it, I was hoping it was made in 1990 just because that’s the year I graduated high school so that would have been cool...but since it’s later than that...I’ll take the year I entered the military, so hopefully it’s that year. I plan on buying a s&w catalog soon to aid in research.

I got a -3.
This gun now wears X-Frame Hogue Tamers, but in the pic it's Ahrends R-S Cordia combats.

$660 around here that's theft.
Nice! Great price.
My favorite 44 magnum to shoot is my 629 Classic with a 5" barrel .

Curt, those are Pao Ferro, resembles walnut. Mine fit great as have all Hogue grips I've purchased.

Congrats on a nice revolver at a very low price.
My 629-3 Classic has the BPNxxxx serial number.
S&W says it left the factory on 8-23-93.

629
I know this old timer doesn't belong in this thread but I couldn't help myself. I use Blue Magic to polish. It does an amazing job.

I had a set of N grips coming in from Altamont for my S&W 627 and when I got them I figured since those Camo hogue grips didn’t fi quite right, I‘ll give these a shot. They fit better and feel better in my hand. I really liked the look of the Hogue camo grips, wished they’d fit. Here’s the 629 now with the Altamont.
