Default Model 64-5 Year/Value

Trying to get the history of my S&W stainless 38 spl ctg. Not interested in selling it. I love it. The gun dealer I bought it off of in MD told me it was a retired police issue. I would just like to know what year it is and how much it's worth for insurance purposes. OK, she's a model 64-5, Serial # BBY6509 and states C.A.I. Georgia VT on the end of the barrel. Also, a 3 screw. Hope the pics help.

BBY serial number prefix indicates shipped in 1989. C.I.A. Georgia VT is an importer's mark which means the revolver was sold at some point outside the USA and then brought back by C.I.A. Finish looks a bit rough, not uncommon with re-imports.The hammer spur has been bobbed. Is it double action only?

If you are happy with what you paid for it, that's the value to you. Objectively, I'd put value at $200-250. I assume you have grips for it?

And it's not really an antique. You might get more information by posting in the 1980 to Present section.
