Default 686-0 6" with "LP" front sight

Ok...so my memory and Google are failing me. I have the above mentioned gun, with the label depicting it has an LP front sight. Based on the SCS&W, I believe it to be product code 104205. Although the box says product code 6860096031.

Here's my question...I can't remember what LP stands for....is it Low Profile?

I don't think it stands for Luther Perkins.

Also...is this a rare or odd variant?

Much thanks in advance.

Should mean "Low Patridge"; I have a 586 that was ordered with the "HP, or High Patridge" for Police Distinguished matches.

It now starts to make sense.

Is this a rare option?

I have no idea what percentage of the 586/686 were made with the low Patridge sight, but I'm pretty sure that it was the standard sight if a Patridge was ordered. The red ramp is seen more often, in my experience. I had to order my gun with the HP. I don't think I would call the LP rare, but it is less common.

My "no-dash" also has the low profile front sight, I have seen the Baughman ramp front sights also.

Most early 4-inch 586 and 686 revolvers came equipped with the red ramp on baughman ramp base as standard equipment.

Many (but not all) 586 and 686 revolvers with 6-inch and 8-3/8" barrels came with the patridge front sight blade.

Most 586s and 686s shipped with integral front red ramp sights. I have an early 586 that has an integral Patridge, but they must have not made too many of them. I have seen a few 686s with pinned front Patridge sights. Not many!! These were earlier ones with solid pins, not the roll pins they use now.
