Default Anticipation - S&W627-1

Haven't been this excited in a while...

The reason: tonight our club's range will be reopened since all indoor sports activities were shut down by the government nationally as of 15 December 2020.
(There are 0 outdoor pistol ranges here in the Netherlands - and hardly any outdoor rifle ranges for that matter - so in effect this brought nearly everybody to a standstill as far as shooting goes.)

That's a long time to wait to take my new-to-me 627-1 out again, for the second time only...

Due to the nature of the backstop at the particular lane I've booked, I'll only be allowed to shoot 38 Specials, no 357 Magnums. But I have another range reservation for Saturday when I'll be able to try some higher power loads.

One thing: the revolver hasn't been this clean since it left the factory, I'm sure!

Will report back how it did later this week. Wish me luck

Good luck with the new 627. I am sure that you will fall in love with it. We'll wait for the range report.

Default Quick range update

For (detailed) pictures of the gun, please refer to my intro topic:
627-1 Target Champion

Yesterday I shot 120 wadcutter reloads, 70 of which were made with copper plated 148 grain bullets from the Spanish company rg-bullets.com. I wasn't happy with these before the COVID-19 lockdown induced break and it was still the same yesterday... That's about all I want to say about them - I won't be buying them again

Needless to say, I was way out of practice.
Groups at 25 meters/27.5 yards, one handed, offhand, single action were as attached. Sights needed to be adjusted to the left, that took some time and finnicking too but they should be OK now.

Summarizing: let's say there's definitely room for improvement!

Next Saturday I'll be able to shoot some 357 Magnum reloads that I have more confidence in, they used to shoot fine in my sadly demised 686-1.

More to follow...

Update (without pics): 357 Magnum reloads with Hodgdon H110 ran fine indeed. I'm starting to like the revolver, should be a keeper.

Always wanted an N frame. Hard to find a 627 for a reasonable price these days. You can still find a 28-2 for a decent price, though those are becoming harder to find also. Whichever one, when I find the right one for the right price, I'm going to jump on it. Congrats on a fine revolver.
