Default M22-4 front sight replacement

Love everything about it except the black-on-black sights. Would like to find any of the following OF SIMILAR HEIGHT to the original... (and a source for FS pins):

- half moon with orange/yellow insert.
- half moon or patridge with GOLD BEAD (preferred)
- patridge with orange/yellow insert
- other suggestions ???

TIA

Patridge with a gold bead is called a McGivern sight. Patridge with a flat gold bead is a Call sight.

I am not aware of moon sights with inserts but...

Many here will recommend painting the visible front sight surface. If you want to permanently modify the existing blade, you may want to find a factory replacement so it can be put back to normal. It is secured with a small rollpin so that is likely not a problem to find too.

If it has the same dovetail cut in the sight base as older N frames you might find a suitable replacement that will fit, or a gunsmith can probably make one to your liking. Good luck in your decision.

I have a 21-4 and 22-4 that I checked on changing the front sight blade.
You would need a .168 high blade and S&W offers a Patridge blade in that height. The exchange should be simple, drive out the pin, remove blade and install new blade BUT the new blade must be drilled to insert the pin.
You could paint the flat face of the Patridge with any color you want.
Midway and Brownells should have the blade.

This ^^^. If you attempt it yourself, drill from both sides, not one side straight through. It will help prevent a misaligned hole.

THANK YOU! Exactly the type of info I need. Paint on the Patridge will last longer than on the half-moon.
