That is probably the best offer S&W can do for him. To bad you can't get market value for your defective gun. Recently GB had two of these sell for a little over $1600.00 each gun.

I am contacting you in regards to the firearm you sent in to our facility for repair. The evaluation performed by our gunsmiths has determined that your firearm is unrepairable and have deemed this a warranty issue making you eligible for a replacement firearm.

Your replacement firearm will be a new Model 329 PD, SKU 163414 or Model 57, SKU 150481.

I sent them a message saying I am grateful for the offer, but would like a Revolver closer to what this one was worth. We'll see what they say.
As others are saying, I would take the Model 57. Sure, it's not as lightweight, but it's much more durable and easier to shoot.

Since you were shooting reloads, I'm surprised they offered you anything. Take what they offered and run! The only thing I think you had going for you is where the damage is. If it was a hot round I would expect it to take out some of the cylinder and possibly damage to the top strap. As was already mentioned, you're lucky you didn't get injured.

Agree you won't get "market value" from S&W. From personal experience I can say the replacement isn't necessarily the 2 options in the e-mail. I was offered a direct replacement for what I sent in, but by asking I got a different model of gun with the same wholesale price, basically.

Considering this was a USED firearm and technically had no warranty, I think that Smith & Wesson is making a very fair offer.

If you think a different firearm would be a better offer, instead of playing negotiating games with them, step up to the plate and tell them exactly what you want.

BTW, what do you want? At least tell your Forum brethren what you have in mind.

I usually never comment on posts of this nature, however:

TAKE THAT MOD. 57.... it's a SWEET GUN (even with the cursed lock)

IMHO of course,
J.

I did indeed ask for a different cartridge on a contender barrel and encore barrel replacement. However, the barrels are all priced the same when new from the factory. I got a 44 mag contender replaced with a .357mag and a Encore .260 replaced with a Contender 7-30 waters.

I don't think I would have worded it that you wanted something closer in price, but maybe you wanted something different. Take the replacement and run!
