My first and I hope many, special S&W revolvers. Into the safe she goes, never to be fired!

Absolutely beautiful piece. Will its future value as an un-fired piece be greater than or less than the enjoyment of using it occasionally? I had that dilemma with vintage guitars. I play mine, keep them pristine and never regretted it.

I shoot my 29-2 on a regular basis so I really don't need to shoot this one, plus I've always wanted a "one off" to keep and admire.

I'd like to think the long term value would be better on a non fired basis but there are probably ton of folks here that know better than I do. I've owned tons and tons of vintage Gibsons, fenders, Guild's and CF Martins and found myself in the same spot. Today, I keep em and I play them!

Altamont did the engraving .... I'm very pleased !

She is definitely a safe queen!! When your favorite action movie comes on, break out the cotton gloves, and join in on the shootout!!!

Looks good although I'd recommend staying away from those hilary holes. Unless you did that on a early model I wouldn't expect the value to go up at all unless smith stops making them or something.

all good points indeed, but it's pretty cool having an non fired S&W and sticking it in a safe to show other gun lovers, shooters, collectors, etc.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Though I keep one on my office desk and obviously several on display in my study at the house. I have found that a piece of art like your embellished Model 629 will start conversation from liberals and conservatives alike. While not all start on friendly note, they almost always end on one.

These are Art, they were made to be displayed and shared with our compadres when they stop by. This is no different than hanging a Peter Maxx or Salvador Dali on the wall. No different than having a display cabinet with Lladrós or Lalique in it for your friends and family to admire

I'm not an engraved gun guy...... but I really like that one.

OP is from Az. ....... BBQ anyone????

Next one should be a 3 or 4 incher with fancy checkered Spegel Boot grips...... for EDC open carry in Az.

Default Special Engraved 44Rem Mag

That is a Special S&W Model 629. I really like the Engraved
Pattern.

The Internal Safety doesn't bother me, it is just another phase
of Collecting S&Ws.

To shoot or not shoot is your choice. Now, if that Model 629
were mine, I would shoot it once in a while. I have mid-range
Reloads that wouldn't punish it. Also, would just be handled
and cleaned very carefully.

Thank you for telling about a Special S&W and the Picture.

When I saw the title, I expected to see a gun customized to use in an improved manner. I’m torn when I see a line involving the word “safe” or “display” or something similar. I personally feel that a gun is made to be shot and enjoyed.

That said, I now am beginning to acquire an appreciation for engraved works of art that pose as firearms. I say “pose” since these are not destined to be used for their intended purpose. This is not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just different from my gun philosophy. As with all things, this is purely personal, and the OP has definitely reached a high point in the field of gun art.

I have a 60 I'm seriously thinking about doing a custom with. But I would still shoot it occasionally.

Several have mentioned vintage guitars. I bought a mid-50's Stratocaster back in the early 1970's because that was the only way to get a maple neck at the time, and I liked playing on those better. It was my main guitar thru the 70's and early 80's, going thru pickup swaps and acquiring chips, scratches, and even tooth marks, LOL. When I finally sold it, I only got 21x what I paid.

Something I keep telling myself I should do one of these days. Unfortunately those days are getting shorter as I get older. It would be something to pass on to my son.

I quit showing my guns to anyone except 2 buddies that I trust 100% to keep silent. Guy I have done some trading with in the past loved to show his collection and had a good many on display in his house. Word got around and he had a home invasion. Held at gunpoint and after forcing him to open his safes, all of his guns were carted off. Obviously pros and they only wanted his guns. These days you can’t be too careful

A lot of folks are taking the same approach, whether fearful of thieves or repressive government. Did that home invasion take place in SC?

Close to the NC/SC border in a sort of rural area. That didn't help him either being in a secluded area.

Congrats on the new gun. It looks really cool. But I saw it was 100 degrees in your town last night at 10:30pm. Dang that's hot. Enjoy your new gun!

Nobody will be able to tell or care if you shoot it. If you don’t shoot it, someone will after you’re gone. May as well enjoy it. It’s a gun! Shoot it!
George Patton, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable shot theirs.
