New Member With A New (To Me) Wheelie, A 57-0!
Very happy to be a new member on such an informative forum! I've visited a few times but didn't join until recently because I picked up a nice Smith in a trade that I know I can find out much about it on here! I was offered in a trade recently a very nice Model 57 4 inch nickel with a very unique extra...... it's a dash 0! I was told it actually started it's life out as a 29-2, but after being set up with all the 41 Mag utilities, it was stamped over as a 57-0! I've read very little about these anomalies on the various sites that I've researched, and am hoping that the Smith veterans on here can help me out. The serial number is N324412, so if I could find out the "ship date" or date of manuf. along with it's rarity and maybe fair value that would be great! Didn't come with the original stocks (the ones that came with it look to be stamped as Oct. 1995) or the case, but I did receive the original manual along with a couple other pamphlets. It's great to finally be a small part of the "Smith family" and thanks in advance for any help. I'm including a few pics too........

Welcome to the forum. According to the SCSW your serial number was mfg during the 1975-76 years. I would say 1975. I am a fan of the 41 mag. I own a Model 57 blue 4 inch that came with wood case and tools and a 657 6 inch stainless that came with box and papers. If you keep yours you will find that factory ammo can be expensive. I reload for mine to keep costs down. Enjoy your revolver.

Welcome! Overstamped guns during this era are seen occasionally. I suspect the "-0" was placed to cover the original -2. Standard model 57s of the era do not have the -0.
Enjoy!

Welcome from NW PA. I'd guess around $800, but that depends on where you live.

Thanks for the welcome, and I apologize for having this thread in the wrong sub-forum! I thought it read revolvers 1960 to present, my tired old eyes failed me again! If the Mods need to move it I'd appreciate it........

Try posting a Wanted to Buy ad. You would be looking for N frame Target stocks with the extractor or “football” cutout.

I had a choice in the trade of 5 different Smith revolvers, narrowed it down to 2, the 57-0 or a 657-4 Mountain Gun. Not sure if I made a mistake, but I chose the one that was more unique to me.........

Welcome. You made no mistake in my mind. I too would have chosen the 57-0. Beautiful gun.

As far as value, without regard to over stamp that is a $1200 to $1500 gun. Personally I would and will pay $1000 if you were selling. I would put some smooth football grips on it.

Thanks for the honest assessment, and I'll keep your interest in mind if I decide to sell. The smooth football cutout grips sound interesting, so are they completely smooth with no checkering?

This is what smooth football targets look like. These are Mesquite custom made by John Culina.

John & Jennifer are great people to deal with and I have grips from them.
I don't think their last name is Culina.
Kurac is his member name here.
BTW some factory ones are pretty nice too.
