Default Speedloader for 637-2

I saw there some older threads for the speed loader for the 637-2 I didn-t see a good recommended speed loader.. I just bought one a month ago.It has the stock rubber grips on it. I bought a Pachmayr 02650. I returned it with no problem. It wouldnt work with my gun.Any suggestions? I have looked around and just cant find one highly recommended...I dont mind spending extra to get one that will work.

My preference is for Safariland Comp I speedloaders. Secure, durable, and easy to operate. They're not compatible with all stock types, but personally, I'd rather find a set of grips that work or modify the ones I have to be able to use them. I know people who have modified the factory S&W rubber grips by removing enough material to allow the loader to fit.

You might also want to check out HKS. I don't like their release mechanism, but a lot of people like them, they're good quality, and have been around a long time. They tend to have a little more play in the loaded rounds, so they may be more compatible with a wider range of grips.

Of course, speed strips are a good option. They're not as fast, but there's no compatibility issue with grips and they are flat so can be carried more easily. I've actually gone back to them after using speedloaders for a while.

Just my opinion.

The hks 36 should work for that 637. If memory hasn't failed.

I own a 637 Performance Center and use speed strips with this cool spacing. Works great and very concealable. See below with my snap caps.

With the out-of-print Uncle Mike's Boots, yes. With the OEM boot grip knock-offs, the loader won't clear the grip, unless you remove some material from the grip. Do so, or you will have a hang up that you won't believe. Just what you don;t want or need if the SHTF.

Just for fun, I did try the new OEM grips up against an HKS 36.
You are right! They hit on the inside of the grip as you pull out the loader and it gets stuck.
I actually left some scrape marks on the rubber.
I agree. The rubber would have to be shaved off or the grips replaced. On the OEM grips using that loader......

Lou, thanks for your acknowledgement. Better to discover these things now (I hate the word 'stuff') than as a surprise when things go south. BTW, it can actually be worse: if you try the longer .357 rounds (as with a 340) in the HKS and the OEM boots, you may never free up the cylinder/yoke.
