S&W Model 25-15 Classic
Just got one of these puppies, but i noticed that the barrel is more "dull" in the finish than the rest of the gun, not as polished, is this normal?
Thanks

Frames and barrels are polished and blued sperately, probably by separate people
So they will never match 100% exactly.
However most of the time it is so close the human eye does not notice
Occasionally the difference will be visible. This is true of the stainless guns as well
Occasionally one part plums with age and the others do not
The MUCH more important question is, How does it Shoot?

You did not phrase it that way in the first post and there are no pictures to judge by
If it is WAY different, I would send it back to the Factory
I am guessing that may not e an option from where you live
I actually would not have accepted it in the first place if I was dissatisfied with it, you might not have had that option either

Just added a picture. I did buy it without seeing it first, the dealer had to import it from S&W and I got the permit while doing so...

I just looked at several pics of 25-15 examples on Google and it definitely looks as though S&W made them in highly polished and lesser polished variants. Obviously your example is a little of both.
Finish wise, it puts me in a mind of what a Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman barrel would look like on a Model 27-2 frame! (Aside from the caliber difference of course.)
If it is too much of a pain to return I would simply tell folks it was done intentionally to keep the glare to a minimum when shooting! (It is now a tacticool revolver )
Just for giggles I would keep it just to show folks "Look what those goobers at S&W did!". I didn't see any other dull/bright combination guns when I quickly searched, but obviously at least one example is out there!
Here's a link to a duller finished example: Smith & Wesson S&W Model 25-15 The 1955 Model .45 Target Heavy Barrel 150256, Blue 6 1/2" Double Action Revolver & Box, Mfd 2013 No Ca .45 Long Colt For Sale at GunAuction.com - 16495042
And here's a link to a more highly polished example: https://www.rockislandauction.com/de...lver-with-case
Most assuredly they had varying degrees of finish with them.

Mine seems to be O.K. (some oil residue on it) One of my favorite guns. I added older target stocks to it. Bob

If sending it back for warranty service is a problem, see if S&W will ship a "highly" polished replacement barrel to your gunsmith for replacement.
All the best,

I just looked at mine - I can't see any difference between the barrel and frame, they have the same level of polish.

Thanks for all you kind answers, i decided to return it to the dealer for a change of the barrel, i just cant live with that odd looking barrel. I hope and prey that S&W just send him a new barrel he can fit in his shop....I have a feeling that shipping the gun to S&W for a fix will take a looooong time, and I just bought a ****load of .45 Colt ammo

My apologies. I didn't mean to imply they made actual sku variants. I meant to imply they made the same gun in varying degrees of finish...... intentionally or accidentally is anyone's guess.
From what I could see in the various examples I looked at there was definately varying degrees of finish for the same gun. Maybe it was a crapshoot as to which you would receive.........maybe some were finished in a higher polish depending upon when they were manufactured?
Maybe we could call the OP's example a "transitional" model as possibly they were using up the last of the older duller finished barrels on the newer style highly polished finished frames! (Or vice-versa depending on which came first.)
Calling it a "transitional" would most likely ruffle a few feathers though!
As Bob Ross the painter would have said "Maybe it was a happy little accident."

Sorry no pics, but my 25-15 is bright blue from end to end. I'd definitely send it back to S&W (or your local dealer in your case).

I just got one of these about a month ago. Similar problem mine has a dull cylinder. That's not all. There are tooling marks on the ejector shroud and on the recoil shield and burrs in the corners of the recoil shield. I have contacted S&W about this but I'm afraid they will mess something else up. With all this unrest I'm don't want send it out right now.

Yeah, I got this on mine too. Contacted the seller, and S&W, I cant accept this, if the barrel was polished like the rest of the gun, I could live the the scratch, but not both.
Im not afraid they will mess things up, I think they will make it right
