Default Need a screwdriver recommendation

Hello,

I have a Model 60-15 (.357 Mag) and would like to know what size screwdriver I need to take out the screw holding in the crane. Is it an inch measurement or a number or whatever? I went to a couple of websites and there are a number of different sizes/numbers and I just need to know what I should be looking for. Thank you.

A call to Brownell's should get the answer. This set includes the handle and the three bits to fit S&W revolvers!

Smile The bits about bits

The Q&A for that set gave the part number for the individual bits in the set: 120-1, 150-3, and 210-2. You could order them individually.

Forster makes a good screwdriver, had a set for forty years. I think the Brownell’s are a better option.

whatever you get, make sure it is hollow ground so the torque is applied to the bottom of the slot, not the top. That way, no buggered screws

Buy a good basic set of gunsmith screwdrivers .
If you need to loosen one screw chances are you will need to loosen others and a nice set is the best thing you can have on hand ...cheaper than buying them one driver at a time to boot .
My first set was from Midway , Pachmayr set came next and latest is from Wheeler Engineering their 72 piece Professional Gunsmithing Set ... I should have bought this one years ago ... very nice set and reasonably priced ...check around for a sale .

Whatever you buy make sure it says " Gunsmith" the sizes and blade grind are different for gun screws ... the blade has to fit the slot exactly or you will have to learn about "Buggered up Screws" ... they ain't pretty !

Stick with Brownell's for screwdrivers. You'll spend a little more, but it's well worth it and you won't wish you had bought something better to begin with. I tried the Midway's "Wheeler" brand screwdrivers about ten or so years ago and returned them.

Default Grace Kit

I bought the Grace gunsmith screwdriver set from Brownell's a few years back & it is an excellent set, but you can't go wrong getting the specific drivers for Smiths. It you aren't using screwdrivers all the time, I would do that, but the Grace set is really nice and the bits are very well ground. Here's the link to it on the Brownell website:

The S&W set is out of stock but the bits are available for 6.99. I would guess they fit in most handles. I have many different bit sets and various handles and they always work together.

I've been using a Chapman set for many years and I have no complaints. Great quality product in my opinion. Several different set types to choose from.
