It's not just a good idea, it's the law.

I had to buy a pistol once because I found a holster and mag holders for that very gun. (which I didn't own at the time)

If I needed to justify gun purchases I would not have bought one in 20 years. A man can justify a .22 rifle, a .12 gauge shotgun and a pistol or revolver; everything else is fluff. I like fluff.

Default Why?

Why does one need any excuse? Why would anyone ask you? These questions have no legitimate answer. If your significant other asks, then you need some kind of premeditated reason, but otherwise, crickets. I like your original whim of not shooting a short barrel .44 Magnum at paper.

I used to gun to the gun shops with a buddy who had the habit of coming home with at least one new gun every time we went. If we were in my vehicle and his wife was home, he'd have me keep them until she was gone before he'd sneak them in the house.

When I sold my 629, I had a lot of 44 mag ammo and no gun to shoot it in.

Was a good enough reason to buy a 2 3/4" model 69.

Here's my best "justification:"

About 48 years ago, a buddy gave me ONE .45-70 round. So as soon as i had some money, I bought a Marlin Model 1895.

My excuse is "I Need It to Protect Myself Against Young Jealous Husbands And Boyfriends"
It must be true because I haven't had to combat any young out raged husbands or boyfriends. (yet)

That would call that a tough call. My mags fit in my CZ 75B and 85's. As the 85 is the same model as the 75 except it is ambidextrous. I have never been able to find a better excuse then "I want it"!
