Default Information needed on 617 no dash

Hi All , I am needing some information on a 617 no dash with a 6" barrel serial # BJJ6251 .

1- What is the original rear sight blade height , and the proper
way to measure .

2- the same for the front sight
Both sight seem to be original , but I have the rear sight
screwed all the way up to hit POA , other than that it is a
remarkable revolver and shoots groups that are unreal .
But as I mentioned I am out of adjustment and hitting the
very bottom of a 2" dot aiming combat at 10 yards .

3- And about what year is was this made .

Thanks very much in advance , I would post pictures but
I'm dumber than a bag of leaves when it come to computers .

From the SCS&W I'd say it was made in 1991. Looking at the rear sight leaf, measure the side. The front sight from the top to, but not including, the base. If you replace the rear leaf you will need a screw and nut.

Thanks for the info , but after looking at a ton of pictures and measuring the rear sight (.147 with my calipers) I noticed in all pictures and looking real close at the front sight I could see where the original was and now I can see the front sight has been changed as it doesn't even look close to anything I've seen and measures .310" and the original is .180" and that is really close to the amount I was having to raise the rear sight to still shoot low , so I'm going to leave the rear as is and ordered the factory original and I should be good to go . Again thanks for the reply .

Back in the mid-1970s, I bought an 8-3/8" Model 14 that would shoot 148-grain wadcutters to the point of aim but the 110-grain jacketed hollow points I wanted to use for woodchuck hunting shot well below the point of aim even with the rear sight screw elevated up out of its threads. I sent it back to S&W and they installed a rear sight blade that worked for both loads. You might want to call them for advice on what blade height to order.
