Default Are new revolver prices going up

I bought a new 5" 686+ Pro about 3 or 4 years ago (lousy memory). I don't remember how much I paid for it but if it wasn't a good price I'm sure I wouldn't have bought it. I was just noticing on line that these things are priced up around the $900 mark now. I'm sure I wouldn't have paid that much. Not that the gun isn't worth it I'm just a cheapskate. I don't really follow prices that much and I'm wondering if all S&W revolvers have gone way up in price recently or if it's just been a steady increase over the last couple of years.

I am sure they do take incremental escalations, but i could not begin to give you an idea how much and when. Since 1992, I have not looked at, held, fondled, priced, shot or had the least bit of interest in a new S&W. I am old school, but that is just me

In the last 6 months revolvers (and almost all guns) have been taking considerable price increases, both new and used.

Just my luck. I have a few pistols I want to sell and it seems to be a sellers market. Unfortunately, as of yesterday the line for a background check was over 2900. About 3 years ago it became law for background checks for private sales here.

I thought that the NIC had to be completed in 3 days and if it wasn't then the purchaser gets the gun. Am I missing something here. I just thought about it. I have only had to wait 1 time due to not realizing my DL was expired. So, I had to provide 2 other forms of ID. By the time I got home from the gun store there was a message on my machine saying they had the approval and to come pick it up. Now that was in the 90's - notice the reference to answering machine.

That is the one instance where IL has been easier. They clear through the IL State Police and there seldom has ever been a delay, but a few that got screwed up have really gotten screwed up, and have take months. The 3 day rule is "normally" in effect, but a few dealers won't complete a sale without the actual approval.

Now if they would just call back to work the employees that process the renewals of the FOID cards it would be nice, even though the State granted an automatic extension of expired FOIDs of one year.

I just checked and MSRP on a new 686+ pro series is $1007.00 so yeah, around $900 is about right.

Revolver and traditional steel-pistol prices for the most part stay consistent with inflation. Now revolvers might start getting more expensive due to the lack of sales, which in turn will have reduced production. Anecdotally, at my local gunstore none of the revolvers were sold out, semi-automatics were completely wiped out.

As the demand for semiautos outstrips supply, people are going to buy revolvers because that’s all that’s left in the stores. So yeah, prices will rise.

I picked up my 686-6 Pro Series at a local gun show in 2017. Pretty much as new. Box & papers were there. 2016 production date. Traded a poly bottom feeder and $150 cash ( gun had a $600 value, but don't remember what it was) I really like the gun looks, and it shoots quite well for me. It was 1 of those things that I HAD to HAVE! Bob
