Need your thoughts.
Hello everyone I'm thinking of purchasing a 627-5 performance center, and would like input on the revolver itself, pros and cons. Canada day is tomorrow and I thought what the hell it's been awhile since I bought a new gun. I have a 327 R8 and love it, so any information about it would be appreciated. Thanks

Can't help you with the 627-5, newest I've got are the old antique, obsolete I suppose, 27-2s. But I can wish you a hearty, happy and healthy Canada Day! As good as an excuse as any I can think of to buy a new gun; maybe I'll buy one too and celebrate with you. Actually I didn't know they still let you do that, but guns that is, in Canada? Enjoy it.

Happy Canada day.
I don't have one, but I like the PC treatment and smoother action of new revolvers. The N frame is big for me, but obviously not for you. It's fluted cylinder is my preference. The one personal preference negative I see is the grip is the same as my PC, and didn't like using it at all.
Good luck.

I've got the similar 627-5 "Pro", which has a 4" barrel. I like this revolver a lot. As I recall, I needed to bottom-out the rear sight; but then decided to put a taller brass bead front sight on along with a taller rear sight blade.
I also replaced the integral lock with a plug.
I bought some extra moon clips and some speed-loaders, too, just in case I decide to carry it (which I've only done a few times, however. I'll usually carry something else).

I don't know if it helps but here's my 627 V Comp and it's a true pleasure to shoot. The only complaint I have is after roughly 10-12 rounds, the compensator starts to loosen up.
Thanks and good luck!

Your minimum bbl length up there is 105mm, so telling you about my 2 5/8" 627PC will not be of much use. I do have the 627 Pro Series whose bbl IS 105mm (just dredged it up out of the safe!). It is the most magnificent handgun I own. My LGS could not come up with the 5" (127mm?) bbl 627 PC so I "settled" on the Pro. IMHO, you can't go wrong with it. Hope this helps. Happy Canada Day!

Great piece of equipment
I,ve had mine since april 2017, bought used (made in 2008). It has become my most used firearm, going with me to the range at least twice a week (until the current crisis, of course) .I've put some 10.000 rounds through it at this time, no problems at all. Only slight issue is the round bead in the front sight, makes grouping at 25 meters a little harder, so currently has a red dot on it, for fun.

I have a 627-5 PC & a 327TRR8, which is the sibling to your M&P R8.
Beyond the obvious differences, it's an (8) shot .357, which you no doubt like.
It's about 8oz. heavier, has a one-piece (broached rifling) barrel & many of the same features.
So what's not to like?
IMO the angled shape of the barrel lug isn't the greatest look but when you're shooting & sighting down the barrel that won't bother you.
If you want one, get it, it's a great sh◘◘ter.

I's STRONGLY consider a vintage M27 in great condition. If you have been around for any length of time here and/or on other forums you should have noticed all the problems and complaints with many of the PC guns. Just saying...... Over-all I think you would be much happier. Not bashing the new stuff - just reporting on what I have observed, read and seen personally.

I've got one which I'm intending to use in IPSC Revolver Division. I've only test fired it a couple of times and have not used it in a match yet. On advice of more experienced competitors, I'm going to set it up with some .38 Colt Shorts reloads when I finally get around to it. "Lou the welder" knows a lot more about these types of revolvers used in matches.

Happy Canada Day! Let's face it, with the exception of a few quality mishaps, they are all good.Even an old Model 10 can be fun to shoot. I think the R-8 is visually "cooler", but 8 rounds of 357 mag is always nice and stainless steel is more practical. Safe shooting whatever you choose.

Thank you all for your responses, I guess I should have added that I've been doing this since 1983 and do have a 27-5 in a 5in bbl. I swore that I'd never own a s&w with an internal lock but damn it my R8 and 926 are one of my favorites. I also have a prohibited license up here meaning I can own handguns shorter than 4.2 in. Thanks again for your comments.
