Default 629-4 3” Pseudo/Ultimate Carry Comp

Hey All!

629-4 3” Pseudo/Ultimate Carry Comp

Got my First Smith back from my Gunsmith. This is the first Smith I’ve ever personally sent out for work, and I’m more than happy with the Results.

This started out as a 629-4 4” that had a bubba’d polish job on it. She shot well, but I wanted something unique.

I wanted to pick up a 629-4 PC Carry Comp II, but those were only made in a run of 100 and fetch a small fortune. I have a 629-3 PC Carry Comp but it’s in too high of grade for me to carry in the field, and also is worth a considerable amount.

So I set about to make my own, I already had the donor gun that I got for a great price. Then I got extremely lucky and picked up a Carry Comp I OEM barrel on eBay that was brand new! Then off to my gunsmith for the barrel swap, and to fit both the stock fluted cylinder and a new Unfluted Cylinder I had lying around to give me more options.

Lastly I added a PC Hammer and Trigger, a C&S Extreme Duty U-Notch Fixed Sight, and some Craig Spiegel Grips.

I love having Options, and this Smith does it all.

Cheers! 🍻

Looks great. Packable and practical. Plus, now it is set up just like you like it.

I like it!! That was sheer luck finding that barrel on Ebay. I've always wanted one of the fixed sight dash 3 or 4s but like you said, when you do find one the price is through the roof. I bet that one's a fire breather!

Very nice!

Probably cost a lot less to assemble one than to buy the PC version.

How does it shoot?

I like it

For someone that prefers an N frame and I do, you couldn’t ask for a better carry gun
IMO
Looks real mean with the unfluted cylinder

I dig it especially with the Unfluted Cylinder... The only thing I would have done differently for an Ultimate Carry Comp Dream Gun... Is have that hammer bobbed for a true blue, no snag, presentation... you did good though OP... really good!

Thought I was the only one that did that.

Had a 6" 629-2, had Mag-Na-Port put an original 3" LH barrel on it.

Check out my avatar.

They ported it as well.

They told me they made the special LH guns for S&W & LH, so, in a way I have an original that wasn't part of the official offering.

The porting allows me to use wood grips and I use 265g home loads @ 1200fps.

Yours looks good!

I think I saw that barrel but I couldn’t imagine how anyone would put it to good use, now I know! I would never modify an original dash 4 but one that is polished is already begging for modification.

Come to think of it I have a 3” full underlug 629 barrel. I had thoughts of installing it on something but I do not have a donor gun.
