Default Firing pins?

What's the best/good source for replacement firing pins that mount on the hammer?
I don't need one, but it's always good to have a spare or two. I think the N- and K-frame sixguns used the same pin, that right?

They are called a hammer nose, but no, the K frame and N frame guns have different size noses. The K frame's tapered part is slightly shorter, and the dimension from top to bottom, where it fits in the hammer, is also shorter.

In the picture, the top hammer and nose is a Model 19 (K frame), the bottom one is a model 57 (N frame).

A friend just recently (like two weeks ago) got one for an N frame from Brownell’s. Said it was about $16, and came with the rivet & spring. I have several old and new S&W revolvers with the hammer mounted “nose”. Some have the spring that orients the nose downward and others don’t. Never really heard why that (the spring) was needed, as both types seem to work well.

Power Custom makes new ones.

The reason for the spring to hold it down was because sometimes the ones without would tilt up as the hammer went forward, catch on the frame above the hammer and break off. You will see some frames with a bit of a groove there to provide clearance.

Apex also makes frame mounted firing pin kits that fit either K or Ns. I have them installed in all mine.

MANY THANKS to all of you. I think a visit to Brownell's website is in my immediate future!

I've been shooting S&W's for over 35 years, and haven't broken a Hammer Nose yet. Since they are readily available from S&W as well as several other suppliers, I don't feel the need to have extra's.
