Elmer Keith Commemorative Model 29-3 Stocks
Hello Fellow Sixgunners! I recently picked up an Elmer Keith Commemorative Model 29-3. It's missing the wooden display box however I will find one eventually. My question about this revolver concerns the stocks. I have a 1 of 2500 edition gun, fairly low number, not the deluxe version so it should of come with the polished wood magna stocks with S&W medallions in them. However my gun has some sort of white plastic target/coke bottle style stocks with finger grooves and some art on them. "Elmer Keith 1899 - 1984" on the left side and a stylized bald eagle landing on a bare tree top on the other side. These also have the S&W medallions in them. I couldn't find a picture anywhere on the web of these stocks, much less a picture of this gun with these stocks. Any ideas on if these are S&W made or are they a set someone had custom made for the gun later? The guy I bought it from said he got it that way from in-laws but no one had any info on if they were original or not. I don't have a photobucket account or some other way to post a picture link. I can e-mail a pic to someone directly if they need it.

Elmer Keith Stocks & Pictures
Thanks, Chad! Lets see if I attached these correctly. Should be 2 pics. One of each side of the gun/stock.

They sure look like Altamont “Bonded Ivory” (faux ivory) finger groove target grips to me. Altamont supplied grips to S&W, plus they sold them direct and to dealers. They could be laser engraved.
I don’t know if those were supplied on some guns, offered as an accessory by S&W or are custom. I doubt they were supplied by S&W, since they cover part of the bust of Elmer. They’ll be a lot more comfortable to shoot than the factory supplied Magna’s.

Thanks S&WChad & Pizza Bob. It looks like I'm on the hunt for the Polished Magna Stocks and will put these stocks to the side as a Deal Sweetener down the road if I ever have to sell the gun.
