Default First time with a 500

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July. I know I did. I decided to celebrate freedom the proper way and shoot a 8 3/8 X Frame in 500 S&W magnum. My local gun club recently purchased one for their rental range. It was money well spent. I had always had a 500 penciled in on my gun list. It’s official written in stone now. The experience was amazing, I couldn’t believe how manageable it was. All I’ve heard is how it’s a wrist breaker and you should tread with caution. Granted it ain’t no 357 magnum but if you can handle hot a 44 magnum. I don’t see why you couldn’t handle the 500 with a good starting load. The ammo they had for it was Magtech 325 gr moving about 1800. Obviously I don’t know how that compares to other factory loads. But I will say, it wasn’t a 500 special load. They purposely purchased the magnum loads so customers would get the real experience.

I’ll end by saying, God bless America and you gotta love big bore wheel guns.

500s are cool guns. They have, as anyone with significant experience with them knows, a great power range, from gentle, fun, plinking loads to very stout stuff easily running to 2800ft lbs and making a .308 look like a kids gun. Don

I shot my buddy's 4" version about a year ago. Definitely not a wrist breaker, but actually loved how I felt, through my feet, the total effect of shooting it!
