Default Best Ammo for range S&W Bodyguard model 38 snubnose

Any recommendations on range ammo for a S&W Bodyguard model 38, 1.9"barrel snub? Usually I use FMJ 38special 125 grain for my 3" model 66 and 4 1/2" 686 but wasn't sure best to use for range at 7 & 15 yds on a friends snubby- thanks all.

I have always favored lead wadcutter bullets for target. Easy on your gun; easy on your hands.

I have a model 10 I used in competition that has close to 11K rounds (mostly wadcutter) without a single problem ever.

I do most of my range practice using 130gr FMJ with my 642.

148gr WC is a good option, but some of them may have a velocity that's too low to stabilize the bullet out of a 2" barrel. I tried one brand that ended up making long, vertical tears in the target while another brand punched nice, clean holes. You may have to try a few different brands to see what works for your gun, or you may get lucky on the first one you try.

158gr SWC or LRN is another good option. The advantage with these is that most snub sights are regulated for 158gr loads.

Pretty much any load you like can be a good choice. Your current load is probably good-to-go. Try a few cylinder-fulls the next time you go to the range.

Unless your 38 is rated for +P (it should say if it is on the barrel), I'd avoid a steady diet of +P ammo. Standard pressure ammo is fine.

Thanks! It does say ".38 Special +P" on the barrel. Was just asking about ammo because the barrel is shorter which could reduce accuracy and if you are trying to get some good groups...

The compact size, light weight, and short sight radius of the snub are going to have more of an impact on accuracy than the ammo, assuming it's good ammo and has sufficient velocity to stabilize out of a 2" barrel (like the WC example I mentioned). If the ammo you use works well in your larger revolvers, then it should work fine in the snub. Any difference in accuracy is more likely attributable to the shooter than the ammo.

This a buds revolver (he's former military)and he just shot it once and hit the target with 2-3 boxes but trying for better groups next time. I know - practice! But every factor helps! Thanks again all! I will suggest the148WC & 158 gr SWC (excellent suggestions)and any other ideas forthcoming...
