Did S&W ever make a 3 inch barrel Model 38 Airweight?

I don't think so but figured I would consult the experts. I am guessing it is a "customized" model, but could be wrong.

I have never seen one in 3D, but I have always thought it would be an ideal carry piece, I can shoot my 3 inch Model 36 better than the 1 7/8 barreled version.

The one that may have prompted the question went for more than $1,000 last night. Whew!

Thanks for all the responses and yes that was the one that prompted the question. I didn't see it to the end but saw where the price was going and got curious as to the authenticity.

I have a 642 and 640 3 inch and was intrigued and in the process learned something.

Well two things actually: that it was authentic and that I wasn't willing to pay that much for it.

I much prefer the 3" J-frames, but I heartily agree with you!

I did come away with that gentleman's mid-'60s Chiefs Special, though -- for about half what the Bodyguard went for!
