New to Me 586 Nickel
Never having been a nickel fan, there was something about this distinguished combat magnum that I really liked. 586-2, so it has the recall ND &-1 hammer nose and bushing modifications.1987, NIB, tools and docs, and tie wrapped to prevent a turn line. Grips have nice figure too, or at least I think so. I just gave it a quick wipe down. I have not had time yet to give it the Rubi treatment

Jim, you are right. Nickel is new to me. Owned a series 70 Govt 45 om the early 70's. it was defective right from the factory. They took it back, and i never bought another. i am a blued steel and wood guy.

It is a beautiful revolver, I did not know that the 586 model was also made in nikel, thanks for showing it.

I have a 6" nickel 586-1 that is one of the best shooting S&W's that I have ever owned! It came with Pachmayr rubbers, I bought the football targets from a member here, they are a little early for my 586 but look great on it!

That's really nice looking, Pete. Like you, I am not a fan of nickel finished guns, but every now and then one of them really grabs my attention. But so far, the only one I have is a .32 HE from 1906.

A 6” nickel 586-anything and an 8 3/8” nickel 27-2 are at the top of my wish list of S&Ws to get someday. But very hard to impossible to find in California where out of state guns can’t come here. My ex wife’s husband has a 6” 686 that has been polished bright and shiny and looks like nickel. That’s close enough for me but I don’t think he’d trade it.

I had one of those several years ago and sold it to the owner of my LGS. If I remember correctly, a member here posted about seeing it in a LGS in NY and I called and bought it.
I really like nickel Smiths and that one was a real looker.

Well, as I stated earlier Roy Jinks said no more that 10 % would be nickel. I have no idea if they made that quota or not. Someone else said to me that if and when you do find them, 6" is a lot less common than 4". Nothing i can prove, but it was said to me. No idea how that would translate to value

entirely nice! I saw a 4'' nickel years ago at a small shop in SC, didn't jump when I should have. Oh well. Good luck with it!

I sold my 1982 nickel 8 3/8" "transitional" M27-2.
Recessed but not pinned.
I sold it because the barrel was too long. J/K 
For now I'm holding on to my "S" prefix 1968 6" nickel M27-2.
Sorry you can't buy one from out of state.

M57 and M586, both no dash. Lately at gun shows, I'm drawn to the 'Nicks'.

This is how my M686 came to me, wearing Hogue Monogrips.
This IS THE BEST SHOOTING gun that I own.
I put a set of Target stocks on mine too. I have no idea of they are the correct ones or not.

I bought this one new in 1982 and the Nickle finish is as nice as the day I took possession. Well, accept those pesky round powder marks on the front of the cylinder.
I took my combats off my 82 nickle to put on the Hogues.
With the Combats my middle finger's knuckle would rest on the trigger guard and after a few shots you could feel it.
Changed the balance for me and I can shoot it more accurately.
BTW Nice acquisition!
