Default Question about the S&W 327 2"

When cleaning my 327 I noticed that the front sight does not appear to be centered in the dovetail. It's slightly more to the right when looking down the barrel. It does not appear to be effecting my accuracy so I am not sure if I need to center it. Are the Performance Center guns checked for accuracy before they leave the factory? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

About two years ago I bought a new Performance Center Model 986. I was qualifying with the gun for the first time and shooting miserably. While shooting prone at the 25 yard line the range master stopped me. He was standing over me and noticed the front sight was "walking" to one side. He took the gun and was able to move it to center with his thumb with a little bit of pressure.

It went back to S&W and they fixed it. It has never given me any issues since. That said, it is a very expensive gun and supposedly built by their best workers.

The front sight is dove-tailed for ease of installation/replacement & to also adjust for windage if desired.

You can center it if you like (for aesthetics) but then you'll have to correspondingly adjust the rear sight's windage to bring your group back to where it was before you moved the front sight.

There is no adjustable rear sight on the 327 so the only adjustment is the front sight. Offhand, its shooting pretty accurately. The next time I go to the range I will use a bench rest to check the point of impact with the front sight where is currently rests.
